MUCV(Multi-Purpose Utility Command Vehicle)...The Dirtybus...

I'm posting this from another thread because the safety info about painting with a 2K paint system like the one I posted above... Anyone that is interested in the paint system I'm using should read this and the provided links...

Dirty Goat, it should look great! And last longer than anything like rustoleum. However be careful when you're spraying, any urethane has isocyanates and this are VERY HARSH on your mucus membranes and can cause occupational asthma. If you breath the stuff in while spraying you won't know it until the next day. You can sometimes get away with organic chargcoal filter respirators if you spray quick, but charcoal filters can be fill up in just a few minutes, then you start breathing unfilitered air. The only 100% protection is a positive pressure fresh-air ventilation mask. It is also absorbed through eyes and skin so you need 100% coverage for your body. A lot of guys do it with charcoal regular filter masks, and are o.k., just be careful! Type in isocyanate into google and read up on it. It scared the bejeezes out of me.

Little update...

Got the sheet metal work finished along with sealing the seams... Removed the rest of the glue from the stickers and knocked off most of the rust/flaked paint crap...

Still have a few spots to prep and then I'll start priming... Not really putting to much work into the body, just trying to get it prepped well enough for the paint... If you look down the side of any school bus you'll notice that all the panels are wavy... So it's kinda pointless to try and make it perfect...

Hopefully it'll be painted and ready to put the awnings on next week...

Doesn't look like we've been doing a whole lot, because of how time consuming the little stuff is...:booo: Should start looking like the progress is moving much quicker after paint...:cheer:

You don't realize just how big a bus is until you start sanding one...:redneck:

Awesome...:D

I have to take it threw emissions and then hit the DMV... Have to wait on driving it until I finish the outside...

But, I did give it the final wash today before primer...:woot:

I should be shooting it with primer tomorrow after masking it off...

Then, Thursday still looks good as far as weather and I'm hoping I can get some color on it...

Having no place big enough to paint a bus, makes this a tricky project...

This the coolest! There was a full 60 passenger with 130k on it for sale for $1000 up her in Wisco. Was used by a river-trip company to pick up rafters and bring'em back up the river. I looked at my wife...showered her the pic on CL...but based on how well that went I didn't take it any further.

I'll be watching all day at work!!....errr I mean when I get home from work:whistle: So be sure to post pics ASAP!

how many rattle cans would it take... :D
that would be a hellava sore finger too!!!

Hey Dirty, since you started the Dirtybus, I've been noticing more and more busses around that people have converted...you know like when you buy a certain vehicle, all of a sudden there are a bunch of them around.

Cool stuff man.:waytogo:

Yeah, I've noticed just around my neighborhood that there are several buses hiding in people's backyards...:D

I have a couple of those rattle can handle thingy ma bobs... They work awesome...:waytogo:

Got It primed... Need a decent window in the weather to topcoat it...

looking good dirty....what color?
All solid, any stripes or murals?

It's gonna be OD green...

The rub rails and bumpers will be redone in black like they were originally...

After I get the paint finished up, I'll install both of the awnings... Then I'll focus o the inside...

Eventually I plan on building a winch bumper with a brush guard, a safari type roof rack over the front cab area and a roof deck over the rear...

In primer it looks like a S.W.A.T team vehicle...can't wait to see color. Then I want to know the mpg loaded and unloaded, if you get more than my burb, I'm getting a bus.
