muddy clutch

i was mudin this weekend and bailed off in a really churned up mud hole about headlight deep and i had to double clutch in the middle (i have a bad miss) then my clutch started slipping really bad i barely made it out it never would engage all the way i got back to camp and washed it out the best that i could with a water hose

has this happened to anyone else?

i have a 96 nv4500 with intenal slave and i built a front cover plate that goes around the starter

i don't know what else to do any ideas?
 
I have spend probably years in muddy water if you added up all the hours. I don't remember ever having a clutch slip when wet except maybe briefly. But it would dry quick when it started slipping.

If you can get to it, you might try washing it out while holding the pedal down so as to get any mud out from between the disk and flywheel.

But, I would try to check and be sure its releasing all the way.
Some mud or a stick might have gotten where is shouldn't.

Trouble is, with the internal slave, you might not be able to check much.
 
i don't think it was the water i think its got junk jammed in it somehow cause it was really really stired up with sticks and just looked really soupy

i washed it out while someone pushed the clutch in and out its alot better now but still not perfect i don't know if it got between the flywheel and pressure plate or just has stuff jammed in the slave or what

it was only catching when the pedal was all the way realeased and was still slipping really bad then i barely made it back to camp in 4lo and first was slipping the whole time
 
That sure sounds like an adjustment problem.
Not actually an adjustment, of course, but its just not releasing all the way.

The only other way would be if you stripped off some of the facing, but you would probably hear a grinding if you did.

Its risky, because you might get air in the system, but if all else fails, try cracking the fitting where it goes into the master cylinder to see if there is any pressure on the system.
You might have a master cylinder problem not releasing all the pressure.

Also, if it was like some of my crossings, make sure a stick did not float up and be preventing the pedal from going all the way up.
Most of the master cylinders have to go all the way back to release all the pressure.
