I'll prolly end up making my own, but does anyone have any pics of mudflaps that aren't totally ghey?

Long story short: I got pulled over by CHP last night. The guy was fishing and used the mudflap thing to light me up. He gave me a warning but said if he sees me around a couple weeks later without the equipment violation fixed he'd go over my truck with a fine-toothed comb. This is a small town and it's likely he'll see me again.

Saw someone running chevy logo rubber floormats.

Theres definitely ways to do it, and have it look nice though.I'd fab something wiht semi flaps from napa or somewhere.

I would take pics of mine but you asked for mudflaps that don't look ghey!

I'll go snap a pic of the mudflaps I made when I got my mudflap ticket a few years ago. I made them so I can pull a pin and quickly remove them when I go wheelin. For the flap material itself I hit up the local Junk Yard and found an old U-haul truck and took the mudflaps from it then cut them down to the size I needed. These flaps are the thinner style that are about .250" thick rather than the more common .500" thick ones. I was told the mudflap has to cover the entire width of the tread and protrude 2/3's of the way down the tire (I made mine go the distance of 1/2 way between the ground and the centerline of the axle to be safe).

That's the hell of it right there. The law (CVC 27600) is written such that there is NO quantifiable standard (other than width based on your tires). It's totally ambiguous and therefore up to the cop to decide if you're in violation or not. I figure I'll just draw a line from the point where the tire meets the road up/back to the bumper and have the bottom of the flap stop at that line. If was an instigator I'd point out that there is currently no mud or water in the desert to throw up (it doesn't say anything about other stuff).

27600. No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.

I'm actually more annoyed about him using equip stuff as a reason to go fishing, but that's not a garage discussion. :) He also said I have a "pretty good exhaust leak" in reference to my (leakless) 6.2L diesel clattering away

I have some diamond plate flaps that are a little on the small side but I have never been pulled over for them. I have tried for 15 min. to figure out how to post a pic but I can't figure it out. I have a mac and I have posted pics before but I don't remember how http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=99433&d=1271060992
Its hard to see in this pic but its the only way I could figure it out.

I used conveyor belt for mine -

No pics, but after getting a fix-it ticket for flaps many years ago I added some store bought flaps that were short and not terribly ghey looking. I attached them and went and got the ticket signed off. Cop there told me as long as it appears I was making an effort I'd get left alone. I think if you have any sort of flaps and aren't driving like an asshole you should be OK.

I had at one point some factory mud flaps for the new trucks. They are wide enough for a 12.50 tire. They are black, with a solid gold bow-tie. They are pretty wide for a universal flap for the 08+ trucks
