I have all 3 inch pipe on my stepside with longtube headmans and super 44s, its a little loud at night going to work. the exhaust is all new and i really dont want to change the mufflers....did any of you ever run a muffler insert..?...maybe in the tail pipe.

I was looking at then at speedway motors, shoenfeld muffler insert

You could run a resonated tip. They usually have a slightly smaller exit, with a tube wrapped in mat.

similar to this

We looked at installing a set of inserts
on a 69 GTO that had a huge resonation problem with ANY muffler. At any rate you could always install some sort of resonator, like a glasspack somewhere to help tone it down.

I have ran the perforated cone inserts in my BBC boat, I think dynatech makes them. At idle, it was the same, but under load, I could tell a difference, not a a huge difference, but noticeable.

stainless steel wool in the exhaust pipe worked for my uncle. He ran straitpipes, used the wool to drive around town, took the wool out when it was time to go out and "play". dunno how he kept it from blowing out under accelleration though...

I was looking at the dynatech inserts but didnt know how they worked, they dont seem to be worth 70.00 each tho.

The little link i posted are the cheapest for 3 inch pipe, it doesnt have to tone it down much tho, just after 2000.

Yeah, I agree, they are expensive for what they are, I guess the main reason I went with those for the boat was because they were stainless, and I have water injected into my exhaust in the boat.

I didnt even think of that, i gota find something that will work a little. The neighbors dont like it at 10pm and 6am....lol....Since its propane i can drive it way more often.

I see their made to go close to the header, i wonder would they work in the end of the tail.

What about adding a straight tube muffler as a resonator - ahead of the existing muffler? If you have a straight section of pipe somewhere it might be easy to cut it and replace with the tube muffler.

that's what i'm considering doing to mine...i have turbos with no cat, and while it sounds good, it's a little annoying on the highway...hoping added some straight through mufflers will help.

those resonated tips dont do s^^t on 3" pipes connected to a v8

The tip I showed was just to show what I was talking about, not that tip in particular. We can get tips that are similar to the supertrapps and quiet the exhaust down. Jones makes them

What i have now is headmans with 1 5/8 flow tubeswith 3 inch collectors, mandrel bent over the crossmember, 3 ft of 3 inch pipe, 3 inch super 44s, 3 ft of pipe then turndowns. Not much room to add anything andi have a decent ammount of cash in it already, just need to tune the sound down some....

The large tips wont fit, too long

Super traps are also too big to add to the end

Not enuff room for a glass pack or resonator

Something short to add to the end or something to fit in the end would do good, just not easy to find
