want to know which muffler would you guys recommend magnaflow or flowmaster it is for my 83 dd? I currently have a flowmaster on there right now but I think it is bit loud and have been told by others that they like magnaflow but none of them drive k5's.

such a personal opinion question
S10= 50 series 2.5" in 2.5" out
K5= 50 series 3" in 3" out (has not been mounted yet, sorry)

quiet rumble, quiet on highway, quiet idle, but still great sounding when you cruise or stomp on it. JMO

i have sold and installed just about every major muffler brand there is. they are all junk compared to a flowmaster. their case thickness, welding techniques, and even the shield gas quality used during welding is alot better than other brands.
flowmaster has a machine that shakes mufflers by the inlet/outlets and iirc the best other brand muffler lasted 13 seconds. a flowmaster lasts about a minute and a half.
a non stainless magnaflow will usually start rotting out by the end cap weld after about 1-1/2 years.
a stainless magnaflow will not rot out, but the neck and case will usually crack after awhile. especially on a truck that goes offroad.
yes some flowmasters are loud, but the longer 50 series, hushpower, and the bigblock/rv mufflers are pretty quiet.
i actually have a 4" round by 14" magnaflow ahead of my flowmaster on my cherokee. its where the cat would be. and with a 50s flowmaster behind it, its barely louder than stock.

other good mufflers.
hooker
the big z wave cherry bombs- but they are loud
and some off brand flowmaster look-a-likes- but again loud.

junk to stay away from
borla.-they crack just looking at em
dynomax.- thin material, but good sound

I have a magnaflow on my hemi ram and sometimes when I get on it, it sounds like an old lowrider with glass packs (not a fan of the crackleing sound) although it only seems to be noticeable when cold?? It is definately quieter than my 40 series flowmaster on the K5 and a little quieter than the 50 series that I used to have on the K5. I think the location of the exhaust tip has just as much to do with comfort in the cab as which muffler you choose does. The trucks that I've ridden in with a dump at the muffler seemed much louder in the cab than those that ran the pipe all the way out the back.

yes, tailpipe exit location is important. My DD has an "after axle" dump. The blazer will have a full single, cause I don't want to hear tires AND exhaust!

i likw my flowmaster 40 series.a lil loud when you get on it,but i like it.the 50 series will be much quieter than the 40 and will still give a nice throaty sound on takeoff and high rpm.but will be quiter around town if you dont gun it from every stop light.lol.ive had mine on for ten years and no rust problems.you are in cali so you dont have to worry bout that much.ive heard good things from the magnaflow mufflers and a buddy of mine had one on his and sounds good.ive always been a flowmaster guy so im kinda byast.

I have dual Flowmaster 70 series, 3 inch in and out behind 3" cats on my 89' K5 with EFI 350. It is super quiet, maybe even more so than stock. I think it has as much to do with the Cats as the mufflers but it still has to pass smog. I have used, and really like the Magnaflow Super Hemi Turbo. It is mellow, flows extremely well and is pretty reasonably priced as well.

if you want flowmaster and quiet on inside of vehicle go atleast 50 series.

had 2 40's on my old crew cab. lots of resinence inside.

went to 50 single muffler 2inlet/2outlet style. still same basic outside sound if not better smother sound but much much better on the inside of the cab. been gathering 50's ever since. :D

I have 2 3inch super 44 flowmasters on my stepside and its loud all the way around.
Had 2.5 50 series and it sounded real good, thats with tailpipes out the back. Currently i have dual 2.5 50 series on my 2500 hd and that sounds good also. But here in the rustbelt they take a beating thru winters.

prob for my daily drived id go with 50 series flowmasters, although id like to hear magnaflows since they do look like a quality muffler.

fyi: get their SS 409 series, it's not the end all rustproof construction, but it helps. Add to that some good engine paint and they'll last. As for the rustbelt^^^ areas, maybe some LineX :)

I build my own...

Great flow and any tone ya want...

yeah, was thinking the same thing about the use of aluminum cans for mufflers,,, they even have the same sound as most Flomasters too :D:doah:
