Ever since I ran across this guys site on youtube - I've had ideas of building something similar.

I've seen a few similar builds over the years and always seemed like it would be a blast. I have an older fjr1300 in the garage that I have realized I can no longer ride after I broke my arm last summer. It's never quite healed right. So I'm on the fence between doing something like this or just selling the bike and making some space in my garage.

Here's another one.

The biggest hesitation I have is the frame and legalities regarding it. Most of the conversions I've seen save the factory frame and use that for the vin. But I'm not sure the aluminum frame - although fairly heavy for an aluminum frame may not be up to the task.

Anyone have any idea how much of the frame would need to be preserved for the vin - the vin is stamped into the head tube.

It may just be easier to make an entire frame from scratch, but was hoping to avoid dmv headaches.. May have to got that route though.
