Multiple batteries?

??? Other than to isolate the starting battery from an auxilary battery, is there really any need to run an isolator? I have heard that it just means if you have a fully charged battery, and you hook it up with a 2nd partially charged one, they will meet in the middle of the two charges. Is this all true, partially, or completely wrong?

not real sure but i am running a dual setup without an isolator with my off road lights and amps running off of the optima red top and my electrical running of the factory and it works fine...
