Those have the best front ends of any GM IMHO. :deal:

Yeah, maybe I'm a little biased. :haha:

I learned in a '69 c20 out in Yuba city.
That why I'm in love with the body style or the 68-72's

Sounds like we were both hooked at an early age :haha:

I actually called my father (estranged for 7 years), in an attempt to purchase my moms C10.
It was posted in CL, and I refused to let anyone else have it....

But, he refused to sell it to me... Out of spite.
Some hillbilly in Auburn has it, now.
It'll probably die there.

And, as I'm not into selling sob-stories, I'm looking at issaam's '70. :D

Needs a couple VERY minor things, and a few parts rebuilt to my liking....
But, she should make a pretty sweet street-rod. :D

A very minimal amount of rust... Mainly surface stuff.

I decided I'm gonna pick it up.
It's definitely what im looking for.

Might bore out the 396.
Might just go with a meaner cam, depending on what the cam profile actually is.
Gotta pull it apart, to find out.

The TH400, originally built for my K5, will go into this truck.
(The K5 will prolly get a 4L60E mated to the 5.3....)

The C10's rear end is a 5-lug 12b.
Can they deal with 400hp? :dunno:

Definitely gonna be fun to put the pedal down. :D

Well the rear can take what the tires can hook.
You're on street tires with a light pickup, you are not going to blow this one up.
These tires are 28-29", they don't have the leverage.
Lot of big block trucks came with the 12 bolts.
But if you break it, then you can look into some cutom axles based on a 14bff or a D60ff, I believe there were some five lug D60 rears.

That 12 bolt is a tough axle. Think about it, guys on here are running them with 350/465/? with a posi and 37s on them and doing ok. That is more leverage than your most likely going to put on it.

Nice truck, damn Cali and its sheetmetal friendly air.

Buddy of mine has the same exact truck, cept his is been painted blue. Built 396 with a 700r4 behind it. Thing is super cool to cruise in and is one of the very few 2wd trucks I have been a fan of.

It's funny, this one has a 700R4 behind the 396 too.
But he wants to put a th400 instead.:dunno:

I can see the benefits of the th400 over the 700 in terms of strength, but on a street truck I personally think that goes out the window. The 700, if built by a competent shop such as TCI for example will work very well even behind a BB if kept cool. Remember, a 2wd truck doesnt get flogged as hard as a 4wd crawler and such, add the fact its only turning the rearend.

That OD is just hard to ignore in the 700, adding in the lower first as well. I would drop my built hard shifting th400 any day for a 700 if I had an extra one laying around and the money to get all the parts I would require for my Sub. But, I have a 4L80e and the entire wiring harness to run it, so I am going that route.

Speaking of that, I have one, well the 4l60e, same thing, in my 95 Silverado with 33 A/Ts, and have beat that thing to a pulp since I was 16. In those 10 years, I have trashed the body, blew the front carrier in half, stuck it in a lake till water came over the windshield, buried it in mud and slop till the doors couldnt open, and done so many truck pulls against stuff I should not have and only once had a tranny problem. Its not a bad tranny, much like a APBT (Pitbull) it gets a bad rap.

I would vote to keep the 700 also. Both of my old trucks have one. Yes the gear slpits in the TH400 is nicer than the 700, but the low first and OD make things better IMO. Don't worry about the 12 bolt. Fix it or build it if needed. Don't mess with looking for a factory D60 1/2 ton rear as they had coarse splined axles and those are not commonly available. Plus the whole axle is hard to find. My Dad's '69 BB truck came with a 12 bolt.

i like it. i really want to get a 71-72 just like that.
would be bitchin.

Alright...

12b will stay.
700R will get rebuilt with good components.
I was looking up 700R rebuild kits last night.
What would it take to make one live in the 400hp range?
Mix and match certain components, or just order a BTO or Monster Trans kit?

And, I'm still thinking about the drop.
I have a friend who has a 4.5/6 dropped C10 (same year).
I'm gonna drive his truck and see how I like it.

can only talk for monster, but my buddy did his 4l60 and loves the nuts off of it. solid shifts and can ddrive everyday

I've never had anything that was capable of breaking the tires loose, on dry pavement.
Except for the '91/diesel/F250... But, f*ck that thing. :haha:

So, there WILL be MANY a burnout video.... :pimp:

Oh this thing was breaking traction with the 350. You will easily do burnouts.
