i am gonna start on my crewcab build hee soon. right now its a 2wd 3/4 ton with a 454 t400. my intentions with this truck is a daily driver mostly and tow a flatbed trailer with my sandrail or drag cars on. nothing really heavy like a 30 ft weekend warrior or anything. as for offroading its not a trail rig and will never see more than wide open desert and sand in the areas i camp in.

i already picked up a 10 bolt 8 lug front axle for it. i have the engine crossmember and motor mounts and spring hangers from my k5 that i have other plans for. i am also converting the truck to a 88 front clip.

my questions are regarding lift. i have read thru alot of the posts regarding 52's etc. i dont want to mess with crossover steeering, and dont need the flex that 52's give, remember daily driver with limited offroading. the tires i want to run are 37"s. i have been looking at either tuff country 6 in leafs for the front or skyjackers 8 inch ez ride leafs. i want the nicest ride possible with enough lift to clear the tires. the rear i plan on going with a shackle flip kit. i know ill need more than just the shackle flip to keep level with the front. since i have to drill and mount the front spring shackle hangers what should i use for shackles length and where at in the frame for the best angle to get the best ride? also what shackle length in the rear would give a better ride? i have a set of airbags to use in the rear as well for when i tow.

any suggestions or ideas welcome, thanks

I just wanted to say "nice score" on picking up a smog-exempt crew cab, even if it's 2wd. I've been keeping an eye out for one for a while.:waytogo: I'd go 6" lift if it was me. I'm running 36x13.50 IROK (36.8" actual height) and was running a 4" with a lot of trimming. I just stepped up to a 6" lift after seeing all the damage from bottoming out the front end. People keep saying not to jump it, but where's the fun in that?:D

That looks awesome!!:waytogo:

Do you got anymore pics of it.
Any details of how the coversion went.

link to more pics in first post.

it wwent fairly smooth. i modified the 4x4 engine mounts to fit the 2wd frame, and other than knocking a bunch of rivets off with my air chisel it really wasnt hard. i have yet to add the transfer case and change the trans tunnel though, but that really isnt a big deal for me. finding the rear spring hangers took some time though.

thanks. it all started with the trans needing rebuilt, then one thing led to another and well.... lol

lift is 8 inch springs up front, kurts 4inch flip in rear, i am gonna add a 2 or 4 inch block to bring it up just a bit more, then airbags will handle the rest. front clip and doors are from an 88 suburban. wheels and tires are 18x10's american racing wheels, with toyo 38x15.50's.

future stuff im doing to it are adding a suburban fuel tank in the rear, adding later model fuel doors to the bedsides, and i want to swap the dash out for one out of a 2006. if i ever come across a 06 duramax and allison combo cheap enough that will find its way into the truck as well.

im sure ill have to upgrade to crossover steering at some point too, but for now ill deal with what i got.
