not doing well...

actually, the motor & tranny are fine. I've spent all damn day trying to change the rear brake pads...gonna break down & get new calipers...

while sitting there contemplating where I was screwing up, I noticed my leaf springs...they kinda have a "w" shape...:doah::doah:

Thinking about doing a sas, putting on lift springs in back with a 3/4 ton rear axle. Still cheaper than a newer rig...

you have the pushbutton t/c Ray?....if so I just spent 320 getting mine working...the encoder motor on the t/c was bad, and I bought a pushbutton dash switch (which it didn't need) so that totaled me up to the 320. That was only having a shop diagnose it for me, no repair work.
So keep that in mind...they are quite pricey to repair.

nah, I have the floor shift t/c...my son in law has the push button t/c, nothing but problems for him...

I'll get a pic of the leaf springs tomorrow...I pointed it out to my mechanic stepson, he got a laugh out of it.

Hey, I did start the burb today...been sitting for about 5-6 months...fired right up!! I'm proud of that p.o.s.:thumb::thumb:

Calipers are cheap. Go to a salvage yard and get "new" rear springs.

Don't start customizing your DD like that.

hey, that's a good idea...

are 3/4 ton springs the same length as 1/2 tons? I'd like to beef it up just a bit...

Ray, my 99 2500's are 64x2.5" 4 very long leafs plus the overload.

Thanks guys, I'll live with it as is.

However, the focking brakes are kicking my ass....

I need a new caliper on the drivers side, so I put 1 new pad and 1 old pad in it...got both new pads in passenger side, now it's sticking...have to gas it to get the truck to budge...:dunno::dunno::dunno::doah:

I checked and double checked, there are no heavy duty options for a 1/2 ton extended cab 4x4...1 size rotor, 1 size calipers, 1 size pads...

I get this p.o.s. right, it's gone...tired of focking with it....

find me an old square body...they always treat me right...!

o.k.

calmed down a bit

gonna take the rotors & have .020 cut off of them when they cool off. Should free things up a bit, I hope...

Talked to the guy at my CarQuest shop, second one he had (99 GMC) this week...:dunno:

Are you in a financial situaton that keeps you from replacing pads / and rotors in teh back, on both sides?

Replacing 1 caliper on its own can cause all sorts of uneven braking issues, as well as using old/new pads.

Replace both calipers, replace pads, and be done with it.

I'll just leave this here for motivation. Its like a square body that doesnt break all the damn time...

the rotors are new-ish, only had 1 set of pads run on them...

Of course I bought a set of pads (4)...I have to use one of the old pads because the caliper is too tight on the new set, clamping the rotor...:dunno:

here's what I did. I had the gal at O'Riellys turn down the rotors .020". She felt so bad for me she did it for free!

Yes, I opened the calipers all the way, and I that the verified the rotors and pads were the right ones.

Passenger side, everything was "snug, but I could turn the whell by hand easily enough...

Driver side, wasn't happening...so I stuck 1 old pad and 1 new pad on it...

It's drivable at least...when the pads wear down a little I'll put the other new pad on...it's ghetto, I know, but $$'s tight and I can't afford new calipers now.

I've been bitching to my Bride about making an emergency fund, she keeps saying, "don't worry, God will provide"...and spends us down to nothing...

Everytime we discuss it we have a fight...even went to our counseler about it...no luck there either.

I try to remind her He helps those that help themselves....:doah::doah::doah::dunno:

Man, the last time I felt like this I jumped on the hawg and came home 15 months later...good thing I don't have a bike now....I wouldn't come home this time...:pimp:

If it weren't for the damn rear brakes, my truck would be just this side of perfect...'till it got sas'ed.!:thumb:

Just looking thrue the forum's and figured i'd leave some "motivation" also. Although mine's a 97 the same principal is there

I vote solid axle sir maybe a 14bolt sf rear and a dana 44hp with some 37's. However it's your truck, just feeding ideas here.

:waytogo::waytogo:nice rig

I have too many ideas, and too little $$$$:dunno::doah:

I am having brake problems on my 2005 chevy 1500 aswell but mine are rear drum, so your not totally alone

SAS swap would be great if it didnt cost $10k

nice rigs

traded it for a 90 burb with a 6.2l...:waytogo:
