This last photo you can see how close tje oil pan is to the xmember, about 1/8" and holding :eek1:
Anyway this is a 1" Cog Belt setup from http://www.blackmountainprecision.com/

Thease pullys are SWEEEET and the direct drive means no more slipping.
Anyway just had to share!

Very cool.

Did you order a spare belt with it at the same time?
Just to have one?

Looks like a nice weekend mod. :waytogo:

Man you sure dont mess around, do you. Sure hope that you dont ever break that belt preety pricey.

Sweeeeet dude! :saweet:
And how about that sound eh?

I think i've seen that cog belt setup somewhere before. :D

cog works wonders on that power steering pup eh? j/k, did I see a vbelt groove on the crank? or how do you treat that?

Ya that belt is a 40 dollor belt :eek1: and yes I did buy a spare, just incase. I can't emagine brakeing it and if it were to burn up then something else would be seriously wrong :doah:
I haven't actually fired it up yet due to the Vbelt for the powersteering is different size than what I had before and so I am still working on getting the correct size for that, I was close last night but I need a slightly longer belt to get my PS pump to stand up straight a bit more :D
The old PS belt would go around the crank & the water pump, this setup is straight from crank to PS pump so i am thinkin it won't slip nearly as easy as the old setup did, even though it is still Vbelt technology.
Ya thanks for the hookup Ryan :D should be sweet, find out tonight :D
Have a GREAT weekend everyone

MUWAHAAAHAAAHAAAA!!!! [/evil laugh]

That is RAD! :thumb:

pssst.....there are some dust specs on your radiator hoses!

hahaha yer welcome :D
Seams everything is 300 doesn't it?

And Greg, the 'dust' is also some muddy water when Fred and I went out to La Grange and played in the quarry. There was a shallow gravel bottom pond we were driving tru until Fred hydrolock his 396 from no inner fender wells, open paper element and too much throttle :haha: he did get all the water out and the 396 survived without any issues :D

This cog belt sings a lil bit too. Sence it is a positive drive belt you don't need to tighten it too much. Well I had it real tight and when I fired my 454 damn thing sounded like a geardrive. i let some slack out of the belt and the noise is much quiter now. I can still here a bit of 'greagdrive' noise still but not as loud. Sounds cool actually :D
Anyway the belt is tracking nice and straight and all is working smoooooth

id watch that clearance on the x-member. fab a new one i say. i just toasted a fuel pump cause mine is that close(not that u have one there). food for thought

with some luck and some coaxing, maybe k10andysbro will have some spare time i can fill........

BTW looks awsome !! i really like that setup

Awesome Burt! I was giving those cog setups a long hard look. I went with the March serpentine kit for the 396 though. I was pretty tired of the slippage with the v-belts on my 350. I have a friend with cog pulleys on his 454. He calls the "singing" you described as "muscle hum" :D

hahaha LOL Mucle Hum hahahah :haha:
I like that one :D
Ya I thought about serpentine too, the cog switch was a bit easier.

Roz - The xmember is close, someday I may do somethig different. As for now I am using ORDs HP engine mounts and thease are some stout mounts. My engine does not move. When it "twists or rocks" from the throttle my whole truck moves with it, frame, body, the whole front. Kinda cool, reminds me of thoes drag cars ideling up to the starting line and every rap of the trottle the whole car rocks. I have been wheelin 3 times sence the 454 came to life and so far the 454 is not moving :D

Mucle Humm ~ That is great hahahahhaaa

bringing this back up to the top. very cool! So does the crank pulley have the v belt on it for the power steering?

EDIT: Just checked out the site. Very cool!

So far, other than my p/s pump being cockeyed, I`ve yet to find a pulley that will work with my press fit hydroboost pump.

Man, i have been looking at that exact setup, from that same guy for a long time. I even called him and spoke with him a while about it, getting an un-polished version (I hate chrome, or anything shiny). The main thing that kept me from buying it was the price, and avalibility of the belts.
I think he wanted $30 for an additional belt. And what if you dont have a spare one, and it brakes in the middle of nowhere. Cant get a cog belt at orilleys or autozone. Other than that i really, really like that.

Ya I thought that same thing, busted belt sanario. So when i ordered the setup I bought 2belts.
It's been what hmmm 3yrs or so and Zero signs of wear. This is not a DDrivin rig so I probly only have 1K miles on it so far. I am totaly happy with the setup and the cost only hurt at the time I bought it hahahaaa:haha:

Info requested for the Mechaniclly challanged
Does this kit only work with eletric fan or can a cluch fan still be attach to the water pump?

You can see there are holes availabe for a mech. fan to be installed. I'm pretty sure thoes holes are threaded but it has been a while so I could be mistaken. I would assume the holes are threaded....:wink1: I would talk to them on what your needs are to confirm.
