My "body work" thread.

I'll go ahead and pick up one of those cheapo blasters from harbor freight.

at least those spots are in a good blasting location...you hit them at a 45 degree angle and it blasts out away from you...what sucks is blasting right into something that immediately blows it back on you...

plus, you are bound to need to do more blasting before you are finished...

another thing that sucks is that the valves and tips don't hold up very long...have to replace them often...I hate sandblasting...love the results...but I hate it...:doah:

How much of a mess will the blasting create? What blasting material do you use? Are you able to reuse it?

It makes a mess...I use sand....I don't capture it when I am blasting out in the yard...it eventually soaks into the ground and the grass loves it...

It is... But its not looking like its going to sell... If it does, Somebody will get it with the body in a little better shape! What im really doing is preparing for my future photo shoot and better ebay add.

When i blasted my floor i used 320 lbs of medium grit sand. It was like a sandbox both in and out of the blazer... :D

Why didn't you just sift the used sand and recycle most of it???

That is what I've done I blast on my concrete, so the sand sits in the sun...I slapped some 2x4's together and a window screen stapled to them, sift the sand into a barrel, and reuse...just make sure its very dry before using it.

As you well know, you won't get much return on your work and investment...if I was selling mine I would be taking shortcuts all over the place...that sounds bad, but really the labor isn't worth it after a certain point...once you got $4000 in labor and $$ in one you intend to sell it's probably time to stop...:dunno:

Yep i hear ya. I figure this repair should only run in me in the $100ish range. More over it will make it more appealing to someone willing to pay $4000 for a blazer. At this point all i need to break even on the whole truck and every dime i have into it is right around $3600. So a few more bucks into it to make it a better truck and make it more appealing is ok with me. I dont really even mind being backwards in it up to about a grand or so if it means someone will buy it.

Seeing the rust on those trim clip areas almost makes me want to use double sided tape instead....

I would avoid the double side tape. This is what the k5 I have used from the factory. It did not come with the metal trim just a rubber strip. Today I pealed it back and in some parts the paint came right off with it. After it gets painted I'm not going to put any trim pieces on the body.

I have no intention of selling the k5. I figure the cost of a new 4x4 can run over 10K. So spending 5-7K on parts and labor is actually saving me money. Also these old K5s are built strong with solid axles. They are plain simple mechanically to work on.

The double sided tape is what caused the problems! Where the two clips are, the paint is perfect. But every spot where there was tape, it pealed away from the body taking paint with it.

For the $5 or so for each 80lb bag it wasnt worth my time to reuse.
