I bought this with full intent on making it a nice daily driver/morphing it more off road as I go. Its a 1991 K5 with power everything, even mirrors. 155k miles and minimal rust... Which is hard to find in Alaska. I am the 2nd owner and am so happy to finally have the Truck style I want.

Some of you might remember voting for me in a contest to win 10k worth of upgrades. And I thank you again as I won this contest. Its been a looong process and its still not done but soon. It has been to 3 different shops getting different stuff done.

1st stop was for a new long block crate engine. Dont have full specs on engine yet..But either way its new and my old engine was smoking/eating oil bad through the rings.

2nd stop was for full tint, quad HID's Hi/Lo, and a pop up 19x34 sunroof. (Still have some credit left over at this shop)

3rd (its here now) Body shop getting a full exterior restoration. Im going with the same stock blue but with more metallic and some color in the clear. I also paid out of my own pocket to throw a newer hood on there. The one I had was warped and didn't close all the way. It had damage in the middle front of it.

Next is all me with the interior and stereo system. I have full carpet kits for the whole truck, templates to remake the rear panels, 60 sq ft of dynamat, huge jug of dynaspray for the inside hardtop, new aluminum prices all over, new sill plates, steering wheel, and so much more. Ill keep you guyd updated as it goes along.

I bet it's going to be awesome. It's hard to imagine having the rig all done up by a shop and paying nothing.

If it's not too late, I would have them pull the aluminum panel off the tailgate before painting. You don't want paint lines all around that thing. All you have to do is open the panel on the tailgate with the window up and remove some nuts.

EDIT: On the same topic, the tailgate lock assembly should be pulled, but it is a PITA. It's not like you need it to open and close the tailgate during prep. A good paint guy can paint around the door handles, but the prep and paint will turn out better if they are out of the way. Hopefully they salvaged the rear corner body molding pieces and the tailgate chrome strip (if you plan to go back to the stock look). Those pieces are kind of pricey. And you don't need screws to hold them on - 3M body molding tape works fine. The holes can be welded shut to reduce the number of rust-start places.

Well here is one of the latest updates more pics to come.:waytogo:

All I'll have to pay is for taxes and my long list of personal upgrades =) They left the back panel on but looks fine, Though I do want to get a new one thats all plain. We'll see how that goes.

Looks nice.

Did you have to remove all the old paint??

A local body man once told me that I was going to have to remove all of the original before repainting mine as the newer paints are different and wouldn't bond properly.
I call B.S. but don't want to have to redo it because of skipping a step.

I think that has alot to do with the condition of the paint you currently have. At some point GM had some bad primer issues and the original paint pretty much removed itself, leaving just the primer exposed. If you have peeling paint then it should be stripped down to bare metal.

I just had my '90 painted and they took the hood down to bare metal because it was all sunburned and the clear coat was peeling. The rest of the truck they didn't have to go down to the metal

Wow that looks great, did they sand the fiberglass down perfectly smooth?

we need some close ups

Will you be keeping the stock height/wheels?...what size tires are those?
