MY buildup update frame done!

you just gotta sneak up on it. be really quiet and slow moving to not get its attention, then come up around it and it will slide right in. you also gotta hold your tounge the right way.

If the axles won't come out anymore than that, then the c-clips might not be seated. Every diff I have messed with had little seats that the clips sit in. If you have had it apart and are putting it back together with the same stuff, then it has to be the c-clips.

ok welp today i got the 12bolt in. i had to put the 4' blocks in bc i didnt get u-bolts and had to resue the old ones...i figured taht its about 8' of lift.

i plan on getting bigger shackles so thatll change. anway heres some pics.

yes thats the correct bolt with a nut welded to it:haha:

ouch that sucks.. alot of chevy has a cracked frame at the steering box. make ur own bracket or order a brace kit. i havent done anything to mine yet.. when i start takin my truck apart im gonna make the frame alot more stronger at the steering box. good luck with ur project btw! looks like ur gonna have a nice truck if u do it right lol.. my senior project was a 1986 trans am.. but thats what? almost 10 yrs ago! damn im gettin old..:D

broncoman much better welds on the rear shackle flip bro, lookin good keep it up, im almost done with my buildup for now and it was WAY more work thatn i first inticapated but definatly worth all of it. so keep it up and good luck

i love the idea of starting with a frame and going from there. the only advice i would have would be to do it the right/ yourway and do plenty of research on what you are doing so then when you fire that bit*h up you aint gotta worry about what gonna break next. good luck. and dont pet dogs that are on fire.

Looks great!

Im no professional welder by any means, but those welds look like they didnt penetrate as well as it should have. My first welds with a mig were much worse!

The ones on one of the shackles look like it might need a little more ummmph. (just the top part).

the steering box area repair looks pretty strong, but I'd v-grind the cracks out at least, and maybe drill a hole for strain relief. I had some junk frame material to practice on. I slowed the wire feed down real low, cranked the gas up, and used a medium power setting. Slow and steady. :)

One thing as I went along, mig and tig REALLY hate rust/oil/ dirt. on one thing I was welding, I thought I was screwing up real bad, since I dont really have any expertise in welding. Turns out, I sanded some more, then wiped it with brake cleaner. Voila, beautiful beads.

Have you thought about boxing your frame? Now is a perfect time.

now is also the perfect time to POR15/seal up the frame!!!!! before you have to do it from the bottom!:haha:
