i have seen a couple people do it, several different ways
my way just seems like its better for me, living in CT i get all the weater, snow, rain, the whole deal
so i needed to have my cab closed, and i didnt want to do like a snapped in tarp or somthing... thats great if its off all the time or a wheeler, i liked choppedandbobbedburb's deal that he made with the sheet metal back wall, he put a window in and such, but the way that i have always wanted was to put in a pickup rear, and i have seen it done, but not like my plans
i had been wanting to do this for awhile, many reasons including; crew cabs are awesome but their wheelbases are ridickulously long, my burb had several things rusted out and ready to fall out like the wheel wells / tailpan / spare tire hole / and the tailgate was ready to fall off, i dare not even open it, my dad sold his mint dump run c10 to my friend to build into a street truck and no longer has somthing to toss brush into and whatnot, he was that jerk with a rototiller sticking out the back hatch of his minivan all strapped in, and also i recently put plates and hooks on my burbs roof to mount my spare fullsize tire, it looked awesome but it definitly made a difference in the center of gravity... having 150lbs that high makes it hard to drive, taking the tire down, dropping the rear portion of the roof, tailgate glass.. drops alot of weight to say the least and really helps out the drivability
i have been saving information, i have been working on this all week, and im almost done, couple more filler peices not welded in and no seam sealer added yet, no bodywork done either, but you get the idea
i didnt want to put in small windows in the overhang areas, that usually doesnt look as good as it should
i welded a 2x4 rectangle steel on the floor to weld the cab to, so that the cab wasnt directly welded to the floor, hopefully a little bit more secure
this is all fully welded, any bodywork is just for the pretty factor, the strength is there
my burb
chopping
fitting the cab
end result
alot more work to do on it, i filled in the spare holes with sheet metal today but didnt get a pic, ran out of welding gas, couple more small things to burn in, different odds and ends
the step by step can be found here http://kissmydiff.freeforums.org/burban-chop-top-t423.html
already i have told 2 people that this was the original prototype avalanche in the 80's, and this is 1 of 8, im just doing resto work on it, and they both believed me
im looking for a name for it, hope you guys can help
