Made a run across the border (Wy to Co) to pick up this pickup.

Debating what I should do with it.....

It has been great. I have used it to drive/tow all over. The midgate has been useful in hauling, camping etc. I like the 8.1l, thats why I bought the sierra.

K30 guy. It is a 2003 with the 8.1.
Prior owner was a kid who blew up the transfer case.
I am debating on fixing it up and driving it or dropping the engine in the K5 and parting the rest out...

Nice score!

Does the Avvy have an Allison or does it run a 4L80e like the 8.1L Yukon XL and Suburban?

I just scored a complete wiring harness, air intake, all the modules (TAC, TCM, PCM, PDC, TCCM) and throttle pedal out of a nearly identical 8.1L truck. I'm planning to swap my 03 Z71 Tahoe with it after I do the solid axle swap and have time to go through the big block to freshen it up and clean it up. I'll swap it in with a 4L80e. I was able to rob the stock tune out of a Suburban with that combination and have all the proper wiring connectors for the 4 speed.

I bought the 8.1L last summer to put into my race Jeep ZJ project but found out it most definitely will not fit so I'm going to LS swap it instead. I have a complete harness for the engine / trans on hand but it has been cut up to remove all the emissions systems and has a crappy little fuse block assembly on it. With the factory harness I can run everything like it was stock and just plug it in.

I've also got to swap from a NP246 to an NP243 as well. I snagged a transfer case control module, dash switch and all the wiring to make it happen. I'm going to try running it on the bench first and see if it works stand alone or not.

4l85e, same as the burb and xl. I am quasi contemplating the allison in the Avy, just dont know if there would be enough benefit for all that work....

If you do I have all the wiring, controllers and stuff you'd need on hand now. And I'd be interested in that stock 8.1L / 4l85e harness!

I don't think it's worth the effort though.

If I did put the allison in the avy, I would also probably put the 4l85E in the K5.

But if that changes I will let you know:D

Nice score! I assume you got it for a good price. Those soccer-mom push button 263 tcases (and manual shift 261s) have a habit of the chain wearing a hole right through the tcase housing. I would fix that sucker and flip it. Depending on miles that truck would still pull an easy $7000 to $12000 if not more. I picked up a bare bone 2005 Silverado HD WT in 2009 to fix and flip. Got into it for $5000 and sold it for $10500 while barely having 2K into it. Some money to be made flipping easy fixers. Granted it was only 4 years old at the time I sold it.

I have a similar truck to your new score although mine is an 8.1L, ZF S6-650 manual with a manual tcase. Bought it new back in 2001 and it has 67K miles on it now. The truck is still like brand new even at 15 years old

Thats how I got it cheap. Previous owner obviously never heard of pump rub, so thats why I can see the chain hanging out. i figured i could out in a reman case and make enough to go buy another 8.1 to swap into my K5.

BTW-I know your truck. I kept looking at it on CL when you had it up for sale.
Oh, and I keep the 4x4 mag with your other truck in it as a refrence/motivation.

No, sell it to me (I'm a CO guy, so it would make more sense :D). I have been looking to get a new truck as my 96 with a 7.4liter 454 has been a good tow truck, but not having at least some sort of door for the back seat is getting annoying. And with my 3rd kid on the way, I need something else. I have been looking for an 8.1 liter truck in a crew cab, but they are hard to come by. I really don't want to pay the higher prices of duramax trucks and higher maint. costs either. Why don't you throw a new t-case in that thing and then let's talk some more
