my detroit isn\'t working

just installed a used 4;56 and detroit in my 14ff I was told the donor axle was open so I was suprised to find a detroit I took it apart and inspected it and everything looked fine springs seemed fine also so I installed it and took it out on a lose gravel/sand mountain climb and it never locked all day. ANY IDEALS??? before I have to install my spare.

Most likely that the insides aren't assembled correctly. All of the parts have to be oriented correctly or it won't function. I don't have a pic handy that shows how it's supposed to be put together. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

yes you are right they do but not like a posi or a govloc i just wanted to make sure he didnt have it confused with one of those

Yes I was talking about the 2 large springs. I think I'll look at the orientation of the teeth on my spare to see if it can go together more than one way.

There's a stamped steel ring inside, with lots of bumps and notches. It has to be installed exactly right, or the locker won't work right. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Mine rarely ever unlocks....It's getting annoying and I have noticed my tire wear increase dramatically.
