i was just wondering what color the stock tbi engines were for 1987. mine is a light blue color. If it is not a astock engine what do you think it came out of. it is a 1987 350 th400r

Don't know for sure about '87 but my '90 TBI that was in my 'burb was all black.

"Jasper" rebuilt engines are usually light blue. A lighter blue than GM blue from late 70's early 80's. Im not even sure if jasper is still in business but they were a popular replacment engine for a long time. A few places around here used to have $1199 specials, you got a jasper long block and install.

My 1979 C20 and K20 had the corp blue engines from factory. My 1987 K5 had Black and I believe the crate engines were black also. Like said check the cast numbers!

1978 Burb with under 7,000 miles certified with the corp blue.

From the inception through 1976 , they were Chevy Orange which is more RED than orange .

From 1977 ( first on new body style Impala in 77 , rest of azll smallblocks in 78 ) to 1985 they were Corporate Blue , which is a mostly Mopar looking color .

From 1986 to the last traditional style but updated smallblock truck/van they were black .

The newer design Chevy , I have no idea what color they are , I can't afford an LS motor , so I don't really care

Truck motors are aluminum heads, black block, the few and far between truck motors with iron heads are all black, and the all-aluminum LS motor are, you guessed it, all aluminum...oh, and I picked mine up for $275. :p:

The same amount it would be if I had started with any other motor under the sun. The flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc, and TO bearing to mate one to an SM465 are $600 for the package, but that includes a centerforce clutch and pressure plate...and I didn't have any of that stuff in the first place either.

You can also get carb manifolds for them now. ;)

I was a car guy first , I still read the mags . You can unbolt 5.3 from a truck , add a kit for 750 dp carb , and make 343 hp right out the box . New heads over 400 hp . Cam on top of that and over 450 hp .

That six bolt bottom end will support well over 600 hp reliably in a street/strip car

I just put a Jasper motor in my '90 'burb, it was painted gray.

I suppose I should go look up my casting numbers... the 305 in my '84 is black. Who knows what PO's do.. unless it's a 350(in which case I'll rebuild it) I'm planning to get a Goodwrench engine for it.

Almost makes me wish I had built a muscle car instead. Junkyard 6.0 + heads, cam, and carb = a LOT of power.

Unfortunately building a buggy means spending a ton of coin on other stuff. :(

Some sort of track monster will be my next project though. Thinking of grabbing an LS2 and 6 speed. Using the front and rear suspensions from a C5, and substituting the screwy rear diff. for a specialty 9" housing. Would build it out of tube of course. An Ariel Atom style car per se. Anyways, I'm drunk and rambling, back to the "robin's egg blue vs. paint the parking lot with vomit orange". :haha:
