My engine made a bad noise, was it a lifter?

The truck - 1995 C1500, 4.3 with 188,000+ miles

The engine is in great shape, never smokes or loses any oil, 60 psi. The oil is still clear (as opposed to black) when I change it. The truck sat for about 1 1/2 weeks and then I started it last night and heard a horrible loud knocking/pinging type noise (sounded like a rod knocking) and the engine had a bad miss, it even shook the truck because the idle was so rough. It did it for about 45 seconds and then quit making the noise and it ran fine then. It has been fine ever since and the oil pressure is the same as it's always been.

What was the problem? Is there something I need to do?

Thanks for helping the engine ignorant :D

If you're lucky, a lift bled down and got stuck. Once it warmed up a bit it started working properly again.
