*he is real f n funny he bought three FJ Cruisers...... See below

Ok so as some may know my father was thinking on getting a Toyota FJ Cruiser for me to drive him to Doctor and Dialysis three days a week. I have looked at their site and they look like some pretty good features.

http://www.toyota.com/fjcruiser/demos.html

We think he only has about 6 months left so it would end up being my vehicle when he dies. I think this is an attempt to keep me from moving to Colorado but my sister says no it is his way of keeping control over family (duh!)

They come with a rear locker and Active Traction Control, 4 link rear suspension. Looks like they build them for the off roader mainly. You can get rock sliders for them too from factory.

What do you all think of them? It could never replace my Blazer but it looks pretty close for a second vehicle and I would have my Blazer for trail rides.

when they first were out I was at an event where toyota brought a couple out, one modified one stock, got to drive both, not bad, huge blind spots everywhere, but hey I drive a big ol chevy so no big deal there

I know a couple folks with em and they like em.

My brother in law has one. His has the off road package with 32" BFGs. I have driven it both on and off road. I like it. It is a very capable 4x4. I wouldn't mind having one myself.

I'd pick the FJ Cruiser over a stock K5 any day.

Blasphemy!! jk, ive been around a few and they ride really nice on a off road but just be prepare to be driving on 3 wheels most of the time, they sure dont have 52" springs for flex.:haha:

My brother has had one for a few years. HUGE HUGE Blind Spots, that thing is worse than trying to Drive a HMMMV with body armor and a kevlar on.

But...Other than that its pretty neat, He has a 2" lift and 33"s. It has the E-locker in the rear and some sort of traction control. It does well offroad but flexes like a..a..well it pretty much doesnt flew at all. But he still takes it on mild trails and the beach and has a blast with it which is all that matters in the end.

So, i would say its a great little DD/mild weekend wheeler.

Basically a 4Runner on a shortened wheel base, ride great, wheel great for IFS, very capable. You will need to do some lift and tires, Toy tec makes good stuff. My buddies are yota guys. You will also need sliders and a decent front skid, and rear shock skids................

Go out of your way and get a diff lock

SOME have had issues with the body welds separating up on the front inner fenders. This happens with or without a lift when it has had some trail use. A lift supposedly makes it happen quicker. One of my friends had to have BOTH inner fenders cut out of the body down to basically the frame rails and redone. Toyota doesn't want to fix this STOCK. He had to remove his lift. Look it up for more specifics.

Just spent two hours reading about this on their forum. Seems it was early ones because they changed inner fender design.

Here are the ones that cracked.

This is the newer ones looks like they changed the crumple zones a bit and also notice the four spot welds to stiffen area with a brace.

So Sunday I go over to round up their garabage to put out and he says "I got something for you". I think what more trash and he hands me a box and says open it up.

So I open it up and in side are three FJ Cruisers in diecast. He then says "don't say I never gave you anything I just gave you three new FJ Cruisers" yea real f n funny.

Oh well just another time he was an a hole to me. Here they are neat toys though.

I would rather have a Rubicon then the FJ, there hands down a better more capible rig.

Didn't see that comin.. pretty funny though

I have driven one a bit and think it is OK.
Active Traction Control is not a good solution as far as I am concerned. It uses a combination of brakes and power controll to limit wheel slip. The problem comes when you are in a situation of very limited traction (mud, snow). You can quickly overheat the brake system. The owners manual address this by advising the driver to pull over and let the system cool down.
