So i can't get the front spring eye bolts out. I already have the frame on stands and the axle is on the ground so there is no tension on the springs. i got the rear shackles off but the front bolts don't wanna come out. anybody every run into this problem. any ideas or tricks? any help appreciated.

bfh the bolts...gently:haha:

sounds like the hangers or the springs are slightly bent and just need some convincing. deadblow and a 2lb sledge with a block of wood should be more than sufficient. keep a prybar around, too.

Sounds like the bolts are rusted to the spring bushing. The only way to get the bolts out is to cut it on the inside of the shackle. Good luck for on your PIA project.:hack::weld:

Yup, I don't even break out the wrenches for those bolts anymore. 7" cut-off disc up between the hanger and the side of the spring. A bit ugly, definitely want gloves and a face shield...

Once the spring is out you can murder the bushing and sleeve and remains of the bolt while saving the spring itself.

x2 thats the only way to do it.

Gonna be doing this soon myself. reckon i'll just try my luck with a torch. I shouldn't be reusing the springs anyways

but if i change my mind and want to reuse the springs all i'll have to do is get the bolt and bushing out and replace the bushing right?
shouldn't hurt the spring as long as i'm careful right??

sorry to hijack

7 1/2 cutting wheel on a grinder...let it cool down between bolts though...

lol...

I use the 7" cut-off disc with my Makita 7" grinder. HF is cool and all but my Makita I bought second hand in 1987, and it's still working like a champ.

I do have a couple of B&D 5" grinders kicking around. Pretty cheap and take a good beating.

The number one reason not to use a 7" disc on a 4 1/2" grinder is that the disc can explode. 7" grinders spin at 8500 rpm which is what the 7" disc is rated for. 4.5" and 5" spin at 10,000 rpm which can be enough for the disc to 'let go' which isn't pretty (or painless)

well thanks for the tips guys i will be cutting away tomorrow then also had 1 more ?

do u know if i can use some shackles in the back of the front springs that r 6" from hole to hole this will be 2" longer than the stock ones or will my angles be all scwered up?

Prolly not the best way to go especially w/out angled shims, just my ¢2

i use my air gun on the bolt and let her spin in there and break up rust and dirt then use a smaller bolt as a punch and done.
Yours must have not of been rusted that bad then. Every time I did your trick, the bushing would spin in the hanger.
