I been looking around for a type of four wheel drive to restore. When I found this site it didn't take me long to decide I needed a K5. So I went out an bought one last weekend. Here is a picture of it on my website:

I have gotten a few books on replacement parts and things like that, but I want to know what models I can pull parts off of in a junk yard. It is a '79 K5 with a 350 V8 and TH 350 transmission. The only thing that has been change is the transfer case. It now has a Detroit transfer case.

Why the hell not?

Congrat's .. and nice find..
You can use part's off 73-80 for body part's since your's is the flat fender truck.. Or you can upgrade your front end to the more aerodynamic styling's of 81-91.. great article on how to do that on the home page under "Technical".. Neil aka Mudzer did a great write up on that.. to include parts number's you'd need.
But.. all suspension and drivetrain parts from 73-87 Pickup's will fit your truck.. or 73-91 Blazer/Jimmie's will fit ..
Hope this helps..

Round Rock, Texas I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. www.rocko.rockcrawler.com

What exactly is a Detroit transfer case? Good luck with your K5, I need to get a 79 or under. I love the body style. Have fun. This might help you out a little: http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/bodyparts.html

It's most likely a "New Process" transfer case..
Detroit... usually mean's you have a Detroit locker(s) in your rear end..

I checked your profile when I saw that Kajun K5 name and I am just down the road near Baton Rouge. Good to see another coona** on the site. I have a 78 Jimmy that I have been redoing for a while now and it is now nearing completion. I have learned alot while doing mine and would be willing to give you a hand if you need anything. Just drop me a line and maybe when mine is done we can break it in properly. Be forewarned, these things are money magnets!!!
