My first square

I’ve always been a 67-72 guy but after using the profit off my 72k10 to build a shop, I dove into the square body scene. Current build is an 86 k5 I’ve been tinkering with. Also have an 86 short box big block truck I need to get to. Anyway here’s my k5.

Looks nice and solid.
I had 2 67-72 trucks prior to my square, but always really wanted a blazer. Since those are so damn expensive, the squares represent a great alternative. IMO they are ALMOST as good looking.

Yeah I’ve had a couple first gen K5s, I enjoy both generations in different ways.

Is the frame from an M1009? The recovery shackles on the frame horns make me wonder.

Nope, it had a cucv front bumper on it when I got it, I took an 82 front bumper and modified it to utilize the shackle mounts and sold the bumper

Been a while. Gone through a few rigs. Moved to a bigger house with no shop but it was best for the family. Anywho here’s what I’ve been up to. Still got the K5. Wife loves driving it so that’s a win

Sold the white short bed and had a 78 k30 for a minute. Was a cool truck. Mostly original. Big block was added. Ran and drove but wanted a little less of a project and a trade came up that I couldn’t pass on

Traded the k30 and 1500$ cash for a 1990 burb that had already been 5.3 swapped, manual trans, full interior, 4” lift on 37s with gears and a locker so it was an upgrade in my book. I love it

Since picking up the burb I have compiled a bunch of parts waiting to be installed, suspension front seats, new springs front and rear, KC pro6 light bar and exhaust. Did get some new shoes for it though

I did pick up an ARB bumper that was modified to fit a square body but I’m not 100% I like it. Needs to be modified more to fit snug. I’ll probably sell it though and run the MOAB from diy4x I have sitting in the garage

ARB looks good- yes its large, but if you had plans for a rear bumper or roof rack, it may look like it belongs there.

Yeah its a pretty cool rig. i do plan on a rear bumper and roof rack so we will see!
