My hood doesnt pop open, what do I do?

Me too. I give it the ol' Arthur Fonzarelli just to the left of the centerline, above the grill. Works every time.
yup, thats right where i tap mine. right beside the emblem. if it doesnt work the after one or two hits, then i go pull the lever again, sometimes the cable slides back in a little. especially if you close the drivers door first.

I put all purpose bearing grease on mine and a new cable and it opens like a charm everytime, before I would have to use the chevy tap method on the hood and pry it open.... amazing how well a $.99 cent can of grease will ease the trouble.

i just give it a quick jerk left and right and then maybe a fonzerelli slap..HA

happened to me when i first got mine a couple of weeks ago.

I used to have to beat on mine pretty hard right in the middle but I found out that if you do it right near the driver's edge mine opens up with a slight tap.

Single light love tap on the front edge of the hood...

I'm amazed that so many of us tolerate such an annoying thing, myself included.

Mine does it too...

It wouldnt be a chevy if the hood popped right open every time! I keep my hood hinges well oiled, and the latch too...
When my hood sticks,I just pull on the release handle, and slam the drivers side door while I'm sittin in it--then it pops right up!--I guess I'm lucky, cause I have worked on a few trucks that took me longer to open the hood, than fix the problem under it...:tongue1:

You know i did for a while than i was like "jeez its only a 89 for god's sakes" and "heck if i can do a 1 ton swap i ought to be able to make the dang hood open right"
Took the latch assy. out sprayed it all down with brake clean to get all the factory crap grease off, hosed it down woith wd-40 works always first time every time:D

Try moving the hood latch (the part that bolts above the rad. support) to the left or right. I've had the same problem with all my GM trucks. This fixes it every time. The hood is binding on the latch due to misalignment. If you open the hood a crack, you can use a drop light to see where the "bar" part of the hood is contacting the latch and move the latch accordingly. Post up if that works for you.

Didn't read any of the posts but the first one, so not sure if this has been added.

My hood did this numerous times, I actually would pop the cable out of the latch at times. The thing I did was wedge a hammer handle into the crack where the hood nearly contacts the radiator support. I would start out with something smaller, then work up to my trusty hammer handle. I would then have access to the front two bolts on my latch. I would unbolt the latch, then unsnap it from my hood and replace it. While I had the hood up, I would recrimp the cable into the latch mechanizm and it would be good to go for another 40 or so pops!
