I took my 1987 GMC Jimmy for a 250 mile drive today and it ran perfect. When I got home I parked it and when I went back out about 3 hours later it wouldnt start. It just turns and turns. If I pour a little bit of gas in the throttle body it starts and runs for a few seconds. It seems like the fuel pump is bad but I dont undestand why it ran good until I parked it.By the way,it has a 350 and it has been tuned up recently. Please help!

OK,I just unhooked the line going into the fuel filter.I cranked it over a few times and there is no gas being pumped. Is there anything that can cause the pump to not work besides the pump being bad?I just dot want to go through the trouble of dropping the tank and then find out that I have a bad relay or something like that instead.

Sounds like a bad pump to me. I drove 700 miles to PA and had the same thing happen after I parked it for the night at the hotel.

If the fuel pump relay is bad, the oil pressure swith automatically bypasses it when your engine reaches a certain oil pressure (while cranking). Our fuel pumps are infamous for going out in a blink of an eye. I would put my money on the pump being bad.

If that does not work, you may want to try Viagra to get your Jimmy started :haha:!

Well,I bought a new fuel pump this afternoon and 3 hours later I'm back on the road.Would have been a lot easier if 2 of the bolts on my hitch had not been stuck. It took a half hour to cut those off with the grinder. Thanks for the help!
