Heres my latest purchase, a '79 K10 shortbed that I bought for $617.40 from my work. It has a 350/465/205. It's had a leaf added to every corner, with 33's. It runs good, drives good. I changed the oil in the engine and all the boxes, welded the rearend, and I've been hammering it for the last two weeks. Buried it in a muddy drainage ditch, and wheeled it yesterday in hidden valley pretty close to my house. It flexes good, but I mashed the bottoms of the fenders 'cause I didn't trim it. Oh well.

I've been thinking about what to do with it. A tow vehicle crossed my mind. I have a 455 Buick for power, as well as a '74 K20 with 4.10's I can rob axles from. I was thinking 4" springs and 35's and a Detroit in the back. Does that sound like a good setup to pull/haul some weight? Or maybe sell it? I dunno.
Oh yeah, it's got a factory tach dash and it works!!

I think you've got a good plan. the trucks already got a good drivetrain and 3/4 tons would make it even better. you could prolly replace your dash with one that doesnt have a tach and sell your factory tach setup for close to what you paid for the truck.

the longer , heavier and lower a tow rig is the better, I used to thick my 1/2 ton could pull anything and it can but once you are moving it's a different story, I pulled home a friend on a car hauler one night and it was scary I thought i was going to loose it a few times, 2 reasons , found out one tire was really low after we stop to check on things and the truck's wheelbase was just to short, a few weeks later went to dallas to pick up a k-5 for $500 and used a 2500 long wheel base ex-cab and couldn't tell we were pulling anything, Dave

I had no idea that tach was worth so much.....they don't repro it? After doing some searchin, I found that towing with a shackle flip is a no-no regardless of wheelbase. Makes sense, so I guess I won't do that. I bet it'll be tough to find a 4" spring that'll carry a ton in the bed, flex, and give a good ride. I'll search on that too.

If you decide to drop that 455 buick in there. Make a build thread on what you did for the install. I also have a 455 Buick i was thinking of putting in my 75 K-5, but cant find any info on mods that need to be made to the truck. Would be interesting.

What type of work do you do that they own(ed) a truck like that?

I work at a Chevy dealer. Someone traded that '79 in and I saw it on the wholesale lot. I bought it from my work for $600, plus sales tax bringing the sum to......$617.40.

So which one are you driving to the birthday extravaganza? :deal:
