My new DD I got as a hand me down from my dad. Its a 99 Dodge Stratus with a 2.4L 4 banger.

The fuel mileage really isnt up to par with what it should be. For christs sake I was getting better mileage in my 86 Regal with a 307 and quadrajet.

I've got no check engine light but due have a slight stumble at idle only. It has plenty of power and no hesitation. Plugs were recently done and I plan to check the air filter tomorrow.

Any thoughts on typical stuff I should check first?

I have isolated your problem:

Dodge Stratus

I'm not really any help other than that. :p:

Check the usual stuff, air filter, fuel filter, plugs + plug wires, tire pressure, brake drag, etc. Also check the codes (there may be a code that doesn't light the MIL). What transmission does it have? If auto does it slip? Is the TCC locking up right? How are you calculating/measuring fuel mileage?

I'm calculating mileage with good ol guestimation. Yeah I'm gonna go check the obvious stuff right now

Don't fall into the "My Sub with a 30 gallon tank goes 300 miles between fillups and my Status only goes 250 miles (with a 10 gallon tank)" trap.

I'm not a mechanic but my Yukon drove me crazy for 2 plus years becuase it stumble at idle but only when it was cold. Stupid dealer ship said it runs fine just deal with it, so I took to a local shop because it was using oil too, and he fixed the lower air intake gasket. Viola runs idles smooth and doesn't use oil. Good luck
