My new Gauges!

I would go with oil temp or vacuum. The clock would be cool too. Can't wait to see this done, very very cool

i agree... and yeah, enjoy all the info... full gauges are always an early mod for me... can save ya a motor, etc...

and i totally agree with Blue85... I occasionally still get boats with ammeters, but even they had gotten away from them in a hurry... there are a couple interesting benefits to an ammeter, but IMO, the disadvantages FAR outweigh them..

oh, and......

Volt #1, meet Volt #2........... :screwy: :saweet:

I just seen this post. I'm glad you decided against running the ammeter. GM used to use them but got rid of them years ago when there were too many fires caused because of them. Like others have said I would install either an engine oil temp gauge or a vacuum gauge (oil temp would be better). At some point in time i'm going to do a smiliar deal with aftermarket gauges. About the volt meter, i'm going to run 1 volt meter but it is going to go through a 3 way switch so I can flip the switch one way to read battery voltage in my main start battery, flip it to the opposite side to read Auxillary battery or leave it in the middle to read charge voltage when the engine is running.

New school buses and motor coaches are starting to use ammeters again, however, they are digital analog and don't have 100 amps going into the dash.

That being said, glad I found this thread, I like your ideas for the dash, can't wait to see the finished product.

I am glad to hear you decided against that ammeter. Also curious about the aluminum you are using, what thickness is that? Can't wait to see the finished product, should look very cool.

And Ryoken, is that a crack in the oil pressure gauge?

I can answer that for you, it is a Pro Comp liquid filled mechanical gauge.

Lookin' good! If/when I get to this point I'm seriously considering Kert's aluminum dash both for ease of gauge installation and to not have to worry about dealing with the bombed out dash pad.

Can't wait to see how this turns out!

Could I get a link to said dash?

Good job on the dash by the way.

added more bondo and got the rough fill complete.

now need to go back and do the finish fill and sand again then hit it with the glazing putty sand it again, drill the mounting holes out, glazing putty around those, sand it again, shoot it with primer, you guessed it sand it again! Then hit the finish primer and sand that with the 600 grit and it's ready for paint!!

I really wish someone would market something like this, maybe all aluminum Or heavy duty molded plastic with gauge area angled back a bit.

From the looks of it Covan dash insert does correct for the angle. I have seen them in person back in August but didn't pay much attention to it then but I just seen a pic on the internet the other night that showed a pic with the gauges layed back some. I'll dig for it a little later and see if I can find it again.

it looks like they may have changed it.. it WAS a flat panel a couple yrs ago..

I should sue for copyright infringement... :haha:
