i have had this 81 k-10 for about 2 years and all i have done is pulled every piece of the body off, pulled the motor/trans/t-case out, pulled wiring, fuel and brake lines out. I have had my motor a 454 all cleaned and machined .30 over its ready for a rebuild kit. my trans a th-400 also needs to be gone through as well. but now my t-case is a prob it is a np 203 and i would like to find a 205. it has a 14bt ff in the rear and a dana 44 with flat top knuckles up front it is also 8 lug. they both need to be rebuilt. next on my list is to pull the axles and clean the frame up. i need some ideas on what to do to it...... thats right you tell me what to do, this rig is strictly off road and will only be used for muddin. will get pics up in a few.

here are some pics

since you have the 400/203 setup why not get a doubler for it? tires could use a little air.:D

lose the rear blocks for a shackle flip.

since you have the flat tops run crossover. be sure to brace the frame and might as weld in the patch panel now for a little extra insurance.

detroit and disc brake the 14 bolt. do as little as possible to the 44. better yet part it out and use the money to buy a 60.

that the kind of input you were looking for? I am geussing there are a few people on here that will agree with some of the things I said.

exactly the input i am looking for:wink1: about the 44 what about the chromo shafts it says if i break one i get another one for free isnt that just as strong as the 60 or should i go straight for the 60?

some things you might need to know:
i want some 44'' boggers (maybe 54")
hydro assist steering
4 wheel disk brakes
full interior cage
fuel cell in back
and other boggin goodies

I did every upgrade you can think of to my 44 when I was running 35" boggers. it held up. then I got a deal on some 44's. I bought a body lift and thought, "I go easy on it and see if it hold up."

It doesn't. I got about 2 hours of trail time before I broke the short side shaft. got another one for free but it's not worth the aggravation of trail repairs and down time waiting on replacement parts.

Replaced the shaft and went out and got 3-4 hours out it cause I wa babying it.

Replaced that one and blew it up in my driveway playing on a plowed up pile of snow.

bought a 60 of a friend of mine that he had sitting in his field for years for $360 delivered to my house. spent $320 for new SRW hubs, rotors, studs and races. $70 for loaded calipers(pads included). $30 for new u-bolts.

Now I can take it out and beat on it like a redheaded stepchild. best money I ever spent on my truck.

they are expensive. the truck won't be done anytime soon so just keep your eyes out for a deal. go to all the swap meets in your area. read the cheap trader publications. its out there waiting for you to find it. and when you do post pics.:D

i was looking for a np205 localy at some off road places and sombody told me a 205 would not work with my trans??? whats up with that?? i know there are difrent input shafts and mounting plates but what else could not work?
also if im just using this for mud bogs is it an advantage to get the doubler kit?

there are 205's that go behind a 400. they might not be as common as the 10 spline ones in your area. a doubler will be nice when you get tired of cleaning the mud off your truck and want to go trail riding. never hurts to have some versatility in the setup. it won't weigh much more then the current setup. shouldn't be much longer either.

what about gear reduction will that really help me in the mud bog as much?

I say get rid of those useless fender flares. Send them to me and I'll dispose of them properly:wink1:
