My new tire carrier bumper

Spare tire carrier

I've been looking for pretty much EXACTLY that kind of a setup. Is it available commercially? If so, who makes it and what is there website URL?
Thanks!! :D (BTW "4wdmetalworks" is an expired domain name)

rockstomper has one, but i made this hinge myself, a 1000lbs trailer spindle, 2.5" .250 wall DOM, and some 2" .120 wall HREW inside it. works great for this application.

i built the bumper at the top, i don;t have a website yet, but im working on getting one up.

I have about 5" of lift (off-topic, but whatever...).

Front is Tuff Country 4" EZ-rides + extended shackles and a shim. The bottom edge at the back of the wheel opening has been trimmed back an inch, but it still looks stock from the side.

Rear is homemade shackle flip + 3/4" "zero-rate", i.e. extra overload springs in the pack cut off shorter. Rear springs are stock. There is 5.5 or 6 degrees of shim.

The tires in that picture are ProComp M/T 35x12.5x15, which were about 34" tall with 11" wide tread. Now I'm running tires that are 35" tall with about 10" wide tread.

Here's a shot with the tire mounted. We revised the carrier latch since the last photos. The tire has also moved down about 2" and moved in closer to the tailgate with a slight slope so that the tire is within 4" of the tailgate, which is pretty close considering that the carrier is 2" tube.

That is a nice looking bumper, Sliders too.

I have a question for you and anyone running that type of tire carrier. How much of a PITA is it to mount that spare tire up there?

I thought about that kind of bumper before I have the one I have now but never really thought about mounting the tire until I just seen your bumper with no tire on there.
what exactly are you asking? hardest part is lifting the tire up there

very nice

That bumper is mucho sharp!Nice to see thoughtful fabrication like that.I'm going to build one just about like that for my 1st Gen.

I'm thinking about driving up there and holding TJ hostage and make him fab some bumpers... :haha: :haha:
