My "Official" Stepside Restoration Thread and LS Swap 2021

all the performance parts in the world won't help if the motors wore out plus that edelbrock is probaly to big.
You'd be better off getting a Good q-jet from Jet or edelbrock the q-jets are a better carb in my opinion.......when there in good shape

yeah you do have a point about your truck being light, i just can't understand because my 305 H.O. has an edelbrock 650 carb, edelbrock intake, accel hei distributor w/ an hei super coil, accel plug wires, bosch platinum plugs, and im going to put headers on mine. ive been told mine needs a cam or a timing chain and the po said the motor has low compression

Low compression, like the rings are shot? Or as in not a true H.O. A true HO came from the factory with 9.5:1 compression

when he does those deep water crossings hes going to need a backup 305 H.O.

:haha::doah:

low compression. iirc the previous owner said he did a compression test on it and found 3 & 5 to have love compression. i might try again once i get a compression test gauge. if it needs rings im just going to yank it

New Video

So after a few hickups the truck is back on the road with a new t-case, front drive shaft, front brake lines, hub, spindle, wheel bearing, lock nuts, rotor, and throw out bearing.

The fruits of my labor:

Also notice the other blue longbed towards the bottom of the hill, thats the difference between stick and auto, and holley carbs and qbogs. :D

EDIT: Who likes my new shaft:

Update!

Well the LMC catalog got the best of me and I splurged a little... Let me know what you think:

Still to come:
-Freshly repainted grill trim
-Repainted Grill
-New door panels

I have the lenses for the front of mine, and I am quite happy with them. They put through a lot more light than the stock white refraction lenses did. Not a big fan of the side marker lenses, but they might grow on me. Still a nice looking truck there.

Why are the sidemarker lenses only half clear?? Otherwise very nice. I really had no idea i what i was looking at.

I thought maybe they sold an invisible chrome moulding :D

In the front, the turn signal bulbs are available in a true amber color so there is no requirement for a colored lens. However, I don't believe I have ever seen an amber side marker 194 bulb, I may be wrong though, but that would mean the lens would have to be colored.

The bulbs came with the side markers and I just reused the ones on my park lights. I think I may get some "chrome" bulbs for them so they look clear but still have the orange color when lit.

I thought about those chrome bulbs, but for $16 a pair I think I will continue using amber colored bulbs. So are the side marker bulbs amber? If so, then it doesn't make a lot of sense for the side markers to be amber colored.

The 305 is near its end

My 305 has been quite the champ of an engine. It still hauls ass even with shot rings, worn valve guides/seals, lifter tick, bad knock at dry startups, and oil leaking from nearly every seal. Not to mention the thing will cruise down the highway at 3k all day long still. But I do believe the time has come for an upgrade.

I just bought a 91 350 out of a GMC 1500 for $100. Only problem is that main bearings need to be replaced due to an intake coolant leak into the oil has wiped them. The mechanic i bought it off (buddy of mine) says it has steady compression of 125 psi across all 8 cylinders. So my plan is to pull the crank inspect it and if it checks out, replace the bearings, install a Lunati Voodoo cam, a good performance set of heads, carb intake, and drop it in and be cruising with over 325hp. Then I plan to take the 305 rebuild it for street performance/economy and drop it into the S10 with a T5 or T56 behind it.

I'll be creating a separate thread for my 350 build and later on the rebuild of the Champ 305 HO. :D:D:D:D

great build ...... imo you need a little more lift like a 2 inch spring and a shackle flip in the rear but thats just me .... keep up the good work
