Im wanting to just do a basic 4 point roll bar, pretty much like the factory ones. Its going to have the main hoop come down just behind the seatbelt attachments on the sides and then the back two points to the top of the wheel well. I dont want to go all the way to the back, cuz ive got a USGI gas can carrier and my water mounted to the left side and like having the space. Plus I dont want to monkey around near the gas tank and the filler area.

Anyways, went to a fab shop of a guy I know and here is the materials that we will need. I just want to see if this sounds good to you guys.

22' mild steel 1 3/4" dia. 095 wall thick

Going to use 5" x 5" 1/4 Plate steel to sandwich on the top and bottom of body , this roll bar is going to be BOLT IN.

Will use 1" 3/8th Grade 8 bolts with washers top and bottom and nylon loc nuts.

I havent priced the materials yet and the dude will weld it up at $20bux an hour and figures 4-5 hours. He is a GREAT welder , ive seen his work and it looks like a robot did it, nice fine clean welds.

How does this sound?

If your going to build something , may as well have front tubes made while your at it , or just buy a pre cut cage kit and have welder dude do it up :thumb:

It sounds like this guy is milking the welding portion. There should be no reason why it would take him 4-5 hours to weld up a simple 4 point cage. I mean, he's only needing to weld the tube on 4 floor plates and 2 tubes to the main hoop. At 20.00/hour though it still not a bad price if it only takes him 4-5 hours but that amount of welding should only take him maybe 1/2 hour UNLESS he's tig welding that cage which sounds like maybe what he has planned.

Also, i would use DOM tube and go with .120 wall. The tube here is only $3.54/ft

Ok, well this dude is good, but extemely slow. He is going to do it afterhours, so I know he doesnt want to be there any longer than needs be. Im guessing he is conservative on his timing. This fab shop is one of those that when they build something, it takes years and costs in the 6 digi figure range. Ill get some pics of the shop and his handy work next time im down there. Its a NICE shop. A/C with everything short of a CNC setup.

Ok, I got the materials . Im getting .134 walled DOM. They already had the dimensions on file for my truck, so the main hoop will be easy enuff to bend. And then im adding straight 4-5' down bars to the top of the wheel well and will sandwich top and bottom with 1/4 Plate steel.

Total OTD for Main hoop, down bars and plate steel was $124.12

The welding dude says it may just be 2-3 hours @ 20bux per. I may be able to come in under $200bux for a 4point roll bar. Which is pretty good IMO.

Ill have 20bux give or take in the Grade 8 bolts which I still need to get.
