I keep doing patch work with the ole rattle can. I think ill jus end up spray bombing the entire thing. Im going to stick with OEM colours for now. I picked up some Light Blue T155 from Advanced Auto, it seems to match up pretty well and the white is just white. My truck was repainted once b4 I got it and its flakeing off in alot of spots. As long as it doesnt rust or have rust im not worried about the paint. Ive thought about getting a MAACO paint job but dont know how much it would cost and even if I did the prep work myself. Id like to DE CHROME my truck as well. Man, there is alot of lil chrome strips everywhere. lol

maaco jobs generally run around $300 for the entire thing. but they dont do any prep work other then cover the windows and lights. at least my thats what they did to my grandpa's old f*rd work truck. i think a maaco job would definatley be worth it if its going to be a dedicated trail truck and you do all the prep work yourself.

I painted an old pick up truck (Ford) with light Blue Rustoleum. It matched the paint close enough that after I compounded it out, you could not tell. Sold the truck and handed the guy 4 cans of Rustoleum and told him they were for touch-up.

Gotta be better than how it looks now. Faded, flakey, oxidized, etc etc etc.

Use a flat color spray paint. I am doing mine in the desert tan or camo colored flat tan right now. I think it looks great. The flat color really hides the imperfections and mess ups. There is OD green, flat black, flat brown, flat tan.

What he said. I tried using gloss paint and if you don't coat it perfectly even, you'll see every rough spot and run.

Flat colors hide the runs and well, you won't notice any rough or un-glossy spots because the whole thing will be flat ;)

Well its going pretty well. Im telling ya its better than what was there. Ill snap some pics once it stops raining.

That wont be a problem, Ive only got the front fender done, so ill have a good pic of the door and fender side by side. raining right now. itll have to wait til tomorrow.

Rattle can battleship gray :D

Pretty sure that's how are going to do my Brother's VW... maybe in Wehrmacht greenish-gray. Going for the Kommanderwagen look :D Think it'll fit some 27" SSR's in the rear with some fender massaging :haha:

ACtually that is what color my wheels are. :D

Im lucky ,mines white and almost any brand will blend in. Rustoleum works about the best.I dont have to wet sand or compound at all.

I found that rustoleum Fresh Blue matched my faded stock paint well. now I think I have more rustoleum then stock paint. therefore making fresh blue the color I have to match instead of the other way around. :doah:

and I hate rustoleum because it dries so slow. I prefer krylon. spray it and its dry.

Me to, another good paint i found is "Valspar" "tractor and Implement". Ive havnt tried there colors, but the black sure is nice.

And also Ace hardwares Brand of Paint is pretty good

rattle can isn't that bad...just take yuo time and remember the 50% overlap and 2 feet rule. Do multiple coats...take your time and you can get something like this... :D

Wow some of you are talking like all white is the same. Thats like saying all black is the same :screwy:

Thats one of our fave lines from our boat customers... "what? it's just white!" :haha:

working the collision shop was even worse... There's only 127,480 variants of white on vehicles... :wink1:

and yup, black too... not nearly as many, but just about every paint manufacturers black is slightly different..

When we first started using Glasurit, I painted a front clip, put the car out in the sun the next day, and the rest of the car looked like chocolate milk.. :doah::haha:

It tried to do the rest of the blue today. that didnt work out. We have 20mph winds and its 50degrees out. not exactly the painting atmosphere for sure. so the rest will get done later on.
