My left rear portal box on my 416's was locked up with rust, the previous owner let water sit in it for a few years... Anyway, got another one from a guy on pirate and it showed up today. Came with a spare short side axle shaft, just thought I'd compare to a Yukon 35 spline dana 60 stub :p

Do 406's have the 404 type diff or the round one where the tubes bolt to the sides?

Are you doing your pinion conversions or you having them built? If you are doing them I would really like to see yours when done.

those are some big suckers alright... whats the minor diameter on them? They look damn near as big as OEMs rocky stuff. How many splines do those things have?

I was thinking mog 416's however.. I was told that mog axles and mud = alot of money to keep them together..... what is your thoughts on that?

I was contemplating them due to NJ only allows 38" tall tires... so if you ran 44's..... 44 - 38 = 6" difference.. however you only get 1/2 lift from tires so
6 / 2 = 3" more ground clearance.. so I could run my hawgs and mogs... and have diff clearance better than a truck on 44's... nice thing about that is you really get hung up on the axles... so that would be awesome!!!!!!

not me i have 416's too. 2 fronts and 2 rears sitting in my garage. :D i'm going to use them on my next build. do yours have the reinforced portals? they have the x pattern on the boxes. what calipers/ rotors are you gonna use for your disk conv.? i would like to see some pics, of what you come up with.

Thats a 406, early 416 only deal. The late model 416's share the same heavy casting boxes that the U1000's and U1300's use.

Brake parts are a secret so far :D
