I had a bit of a surprise yesterday when I went outside to get the mail---looked over at my Suburban, thats been parked off the side of my driveway under some trees, and saw that a old dead tree about 10" around and a good 50 feet tall had finally keeled over near the base, where I noticed it was getting kinda punky awhile ago....it hit another dying cherry tree, and got hung up in the "crotch" of it,sparing my Suburban from being crushed....the branch on the cherry tree it hit was a good 10 feet long and about 5" thick,it fell inches away from the passenger side, and landed on the old rotted stockade fence,it only missed the truck by inches.......................................................................................We had some high winds (gusts to 60 mph) and heavy rain all night Sunday into Monday,I guess thats when the tree decided to blow over....I wasted no time getting the truck fired out and moved it to the other side of the driveway,in case the old dead chery tree crotch couldn't hold it up for long!....--good thing I had it started just the other day, after charging the batteries...I was not going to leave it parked there much longer anyway,to avoid the undercarriage from getting rotted more quickly being parked on grass and leaves instead of the tar driveway...its only been sitting for 2 years since I got the darn thing--haven't had the money to register & insure it......not sure if I'll end up keeping it or not...hate to sell it,but hate MORE to see it sit and rot and go to waste,too......:doah:..Now I have another "hung up" tree to try and pull down, without hitting anything else and destroying it,or killing ME in the process....seems like everywhere I want to park a vehicle, there is an old rotten cherry tree 40 feet tall ready to snap off and crush it...I noticed one right across from where my pickup is now sitting, and last winter I had the Suburban parked right next to it...it threatens my quonset garage too,its only 10 feet in front of it........................................................................................................I have a HUGE maple that snapped off about 15 feet up in my backyard too, thats going to suck to remove--it toppled over, but the trunk landed back onto its snapped off "base"---I figured I'd let nature take its course with that one ,rather than try to yank it over with my tractor..there is enough wood from that one tree to heat a garage or house for a whole winter I bet....but I may not be living here long enough to justify the labor of trying to get it down and cut up...I also noticed a few "widowmakers" dangling over my head by a thread while I was walking out to the woods too.....Dam trees are dangerous!...I'd have been pretty pissed if my Burb had got hit!...

Not his truck but mine from a few years ago....

That should satisfy the pic hungry CK5ers. :haha:

IIRC diesel4me has dial up and trying to load pics would take a month or so. :waytogo:

Your truck is MUCH more valuable than my 1985 K-10 Suburban Brian!.....I'd have been "crushed" if that were MY truck under that pine tree!...glad it was not totaled, and you were able to fix it like new again..................................................................................................I was afraid one of the side rear windows would be smashed,or the roof stoved in...those "privacy glass" windows are probably worth more than the rest of the truck is,including the plow setup......I have a better tailgate stashed away for it,the original is rotted, but I left it on ,I figured why install the better one and let the better one rust, and if anything happens to the old one--oh well!...Your right about pictures and dial up--though I did recently get an older digital camera that uses a floppy disc to store the pictures,I dont have a floppy disc drive in the computer I'm using right now--nor do I have a clue how to upload the photos, though I'm sure its not rocket science--it would probably take a day or more for me to figure out HOW too....wish I could post photos online,it saves a thousand words!...and makes it much easier to see what the hell your talking about!....

Well, as long as I'm hijacking, I may as well tell the story....

This was like 5 years ago. The truck was only a couple years old. Really, really windy night. Wicked strong wind gusts. I get up to get ready for work and I'm in the shower. Barely light out side. Look out the window.... that tree looks funny. Open the window and look closer.... Oh crap, that tree is leaning on that other (dead) tree. And my truck is parked at the end of the driveway.... right in the path of that leaning tree. So, I finish up showering real quick and throw on some clothes over my wet skin. Rush out and throw some shoes on my feet...... as I was getting the second shoe on, wasn't even bothering to tie them, just wanted to get something on my feet cause it was cold wet and windy outside..... SNAP, CRACKLE, BANG!!! Didn't need to go rushing outside anymore. I knew what happened. Couldn't even deal with it right then either, had to open at work. Pulled the Camaro out of the garage and headed off to work on that stormy day. At least it didn't happen while I was moving the truck. 4' back and it would have crushed the cab with me in it.
