I think I may be gettng close to having all the parts needed to install TBI on my 76 K5.

New 31 gal. EFI tank,
New Sending unit and pump.
New Wiring Harness ( I decided not to mess with the stock harness) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...SI%3AUS%3A1123

Had 12voltguy build me a little stainless plate the reads "Check Engine" with an Amber light

I also have a whole set up off of a 87 Suburban.

I have a carb to TBI adapter plate as well as the stock TBI intake. The plate is the easier way to go but will it work as well?

Wheres the best place to mount the ECM, and whats the best way to get the harness through the firewall.

Any other pointers? Anything else I should need besides hardware and fuel line?

Hole saw...as far as mounting the ecm, I plan on mounting mine to the inside of the glovebox door.

What manifold are you running now? The stock 76? If so, I would get a decent aftermarket manifold.

Make sure you use high pressure fuel injection fuel hose if you use rubber fuel line...:waytogo:

Keep us posted...

I'm currently running a Edelbrock performer.

Couple other questions...

Do I or do I not need a VSS?

Any issues to expect with the throttle cable?

Do I need to change Kick down cables?

I'd stick with the performer...:waytogo:

VSS: I would use one. You can get a unit that generates the signal you need and still use the speedo cable...something like this.

As far as cables, I'm not sure. I'm hoping one of the "pros" here will shout out...

The 87 should have the computer mount behind the glove box, above the a/c ducting. You DO need VSS for the system to work right.

I would also stick with the performer intake and adapter. Use gaskets and thin layer of sensor safe gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket. They are prone to vavuum leaks.

Tips: Good Grounds
EFI fuel line is very expensice at $6-7 a foot so it may be a good time to grab all the metal lines from the donor truck or buy a flare tool and make your own and use as little EFI line as possible.

Must have good batterey and charging system, what you can get by with on a carb does not work on EFI.

Good luck and if you need help check back here!

Use an inline vss, mounts down at the transfer case tail housing, and your existing speedo cable will screw right into it.

Use the hose clamps that don't have the slots/perforated in them. Use the solid screw clamps they don't damage the hose.

parts update!

Found a speedo with the little green box $5:waytogo:
Got some rubber EFi line to go inbetween the hard lines and tank
Got a Throttle body rebuild kit I plan to rebuild it this week
New cap and rotor
Discover the plastic end of my knock senso is broke so I need a new one:rolleyes:

I still need to get an o2 bung welded in, still wondering what I'll encounter on the throttle linkage, Will my block have provisions for the knock sensor?

Maybe I should stop worrying about all of this stuff and start throwing parts on:haha:

Linkage is usually everyones biggest worry and when they get to work it's done in about 1/2 hour. Look at what you got, then if you have to grind the back side of post on TBI that hooks up to linkage. It will come right off. Then bolt on the one from your carb. May have to adjust linkages as the TBI unit will move a little from where the carb was.

Should be a water jacket drain plug on side of block where to install Knock Sensor.

EDIT: Get your injectors serviced while out!

Where are you putting your 02 sensor? Do you have headers? IIRC you will need a 4 wire 02 sensor if you plan on using headers. The 2 wire does not get hot enough.

I mounted my ECM behind the glove box with some good velcro:laugh:

i am running long tube headers and true duals with regular o2 sensor and no problems i just put my bung in my pipe as close as i could get it to my header flange
