I've not TIG in a year or two and since I'm going to do some on my tranny pan please check these out. My two biggest issues with TIG have always been heat management and burn through. Anything over 1/8in I'm good on the burn through but when I build the puddle I tend to get overly excited with the foot pedal.

Thanks.

Good penetration, bead formation resembles mine, kinda unstable. (Not being a dick, My welds are bad in that way too,) I guess we both need to practice more. But, it will work!

I anything but a professional welder. I'd probably be better off with a hand control rather then a foot pedal. I think I'll try turning the amps down and see if I can make a more stable puddle.

i'm not a pro either, but shouldn't you fan that bead out to cover more area between the base and the angle iron so that the bead is smooth from plate to plate?

What size tungsten, filler rod, what is the gas flow? Travel speed and dip rate is uneven.

It will also help if you grind/sand off the mill scale. Cleanliness is important with TIG welding. What machine are you using?

I'm using a Miller EconoTig with 3/32 2% thoriated tungsten running 100% argon @ about 25 cfm.

It's been so long since I've run a bead on my TIG. I need to get back at it to say the least.

Yeah, issue is I wont take time to practice and get better at it. I always wait until I need to do some TIG work then practice on like metal for 10 or 15 minutes and then just go for it.
