I've been slowly working on my 1978 C30 since last fall, and it's finally driveable! It has a 350/sm465 w/ 4.10 gears. I'm going for functionality and less about the looks.
here's what's been done so far:
cab swap to replace the rusted out one (free cab, from 78 k10)
front fenders off another truck
set up clutch pedal assembly in new cab (was an auto)
swapped in a newer 465 tranny (the old one sounded horrible)
painted the bed and cab
new brake master cylinder
power steering hose
intake and better carb off another truck
changed all fluids
new gas tank
Heres what I need to do before I'm done with it (for now):
a new tire up front to replace the bald one
find a hood that doesn't try to look like a taco when you close it
find a pair of 73-80 wheelwells (none currently)
finish adapting the 2wd tranny tunnel cover to the 4wd floor
make a rubber boot for the hole in the floor for the clutch rod
install the second gas tank and switching valve
reinforce the old hitch or build a new hitch (can't use a standard reciever)
put in a cd player
replace some supports under the bed
replace or repair the carrier bearing crossmember
and last but definitely not least, cut off the crumpled front 6"-8" of the passenger side frame rail and replace it with another chunk I have so that I can bolt down the core support and bumper on that side, instead of using ratchet straps.
I've been wanting a tow rig for awhile, since all of the good offroading is an hour or more away from home. Now that I can trailer my Blazer there, I don't have to worry about getting home if I break something.
