so i have had cronic problems w/ breaking adapters and couplers w/ my 10 spline 465/205 combo... like i have broke my adapter more than half a dozen times... well i decided to do something out of the box.... i wanted a 32spline 465 w/ th400 style 32 spline input on my np205... so i was thinking that i could use a 208 adapter, round 6, and a round 6 205, but we all know how finding one of those is, and the output is too long on the 32 spline 465 to use a factory figure 8 adapter... so i am in a delima.... i cant stop breaking the couplers, which is what was breaking the adapters, so what to do???

the fix.... what i used was a typical 32 spline input for a th400.... a 465 from in front of a 208, and a custom adapter.... a what you say??? something you can buy that will make all this mess bolt together??? well, now you can....

i called john at jeds machining, a cool ass dude btw, and explained my delima, we shot the sh!t for a while and this is what we came up w/... a figure 8 32 spline adater... what is it made out of??? two 1/2" plates that have the bearing retainers machined in them and a 7/8" thick tube to attach them together w/ a 2x2 gusset for tranny mounts.... it weights 30lbs!!!!

well here are the pics....

here is the new mount next to the old one... 1" difference in lenght....

32spline input in the old 10 spline case....

adapter on the tranny.... this setup has 100% spline engagement

what do i have tied up in all of this???

$430 shipped on the adapter
$160 shipped on the input and bearing
$70 for machining on the t-case

$660 grand total

i will see how much difference it makes on the driveshafts.... and i ordered it w/ no t-case shifter mount or trans mount....

Sweet. I was looking for someone to make a custom adapter to do a sm465 to a flipped np203 to a clocked flat doubler. Guess I will have to contact him.

OK so that would bolt right up to a 32spline 465? I have a couple sitting around and that would be cool. I also have the correct adapter so I don't need it but for future reference......................... :D

Damn nice piece man, Keep us posted on how well it works towards fixing your problem.

to use a factory adapter you would need a round 6 np205... and if you have those laying around its time to sell them and fund an overhaul on something...

Hijack: why are the round 6 205s so desireable? I have one that Im using for my doubler

they are just hard to find... and even harder to find the right adapters... i am 98% positive that the round 6 will bolt in place of a 32 spline 208... so think about all of the CUCVs that could use these....

so me buying a sm465 round 6 adapter to put in place of my np208 adapter for $50 about two months ago was a deal?

what about the round 6 205 i bought off ebay with a th400 HD and adapter for 700 shipped and sold the tranny and adapter for 500 was a deal?

i am not really sure what you are saying... if you need a pat on the back about "finding" a deal, then pat, pat... this is not a look at how cheap i bought some parts in question thread... good deals come and go, and they are generally not there when we need our parts.... i bought a CUCV for $250 w/ axles... did i need a d60 at the time, no... when i bought my d60 that i needed, i shucked out $1000 for it because i needed it....

the point of this thread is to give poeple an option to finding these rare factory parts... if you dont like my info because you are a cheap f'er that would NEVER buy a custom part because you are a deal finder, then please excuse yourself from my thread... it is here to inform... that is all... i could have kept this info to myself but i chose to share it w/ people who may need it....

i got a chance to wheel at morris mtn this weekend and i tested this new setup... it was GREAT being able to beat the **** out of this w/o concerns of breaking it... here is a little clip of me hitting loop springs.... i highly recommend this to anyone thats wants unbreakable....

I've actually talked to him also 'bout the exact same thing after destroying mt adaptor/coupler this summer. Was going to wait for a Lomax and do the swap together but this sure motivates me, that's a damn nice looking piece! The way I drive I need something like that

He said he could also do some clocking in the adaptor for the figure eight since the Lomax only offers clocking for the round six. Looks like yours is stock settings?

yeah everything was stock clock before and it all fit... i wasnt willing to guess on how much to change it, as i built the floor around the drivetrain... my t case only hangs below the frame like 2" because of how much i pushed it up ....

draggbody, you have probably my most favorite k5-based buggy! Got any more pics or maybe a link to a build-up? My truck will eventually lose its sheetmetal some day and I could use some ideas
