The leak is coming from above the rear most exhaust port on the drivers side. It IS NOT the valve cover, and i have absolutely no idea what to do.. i've always had a small leak from no where and after sitting a while in the cold, not being driven, it decided to become an obvious leak.

Hard to see on the thumbnails. theyre 8mp so you can zoom

And that isnt just a spot that i guessed it could possibly be starting at..

With the engine on, it bubbles out from there.

I had a factory oil pressure sending unit back by the distributor crack and start leaking on me. Got progressively worse until it started gushing one day. You checked back there?

Theres no oil there, only from right where i took the picture. from that spot, straight down the side of the engine.

grab the carb cleaner and some jb weld and get to it

Hmmm.
egg+radiator leak=no leak
egg+oil leak= ???

kidding, but yea, i may need to do that.

I HATE THIS ****ING TRUCK AND WANT TO BURN IT TO THE GROUND.
But then again, i love it too much.

Its like a girlfriend, theres always something wrong, and its always you're own damn fault, and you're sure as hell going to be the one fixing the problem.

Have you thought about trying something like this? I'm sure there are less expensive ones if you do a search but just to give you an idea that there are other options.

can't see very well but, if it's not the vc, i'd guess either the oil pres unit next to the dizzy, or possibly the rear intake gasket... I HIGHLY doubt the head is cracked.... I've worked on eleventy million V-8 Chevy's and I've never seen that....

well i sprayed down the entire motor just to make sure, and thats the only visible place its coming from. =[

You need to catch the leak where it starts. It can wick up to places and drive you crazy. The tracer dye and UV light is the best idea along with a good cleaning.

Could be the intake gasket and it's just wicking down the head gasket surface.

I will almost guarantee you that it's a valve cover leak. I know you'll say that the oil doesn't start right under the valve cover but it doesn't have to. The oil could be leaking from the gasket at the outermost edge then dripping and hitting the head right where it's wet then running down the engine from that point, seen it many times.

I know you probably already did this, but I would recommend spraying down with brake cleaner and be absolutely sure its not coming from that fitting and line.

Sometimes air from fan and driving makes oil move around in a weird way.

I would second the intake gaskets and also spray brake cleaner back there.

Although I've never seen a crack there also I have seen some casting problems on big blocks where coolant leaked through the block because of a casting issue. Very very slight chance, but it is a machine and anything is possible.

And remember.

well i'll take a look in the morning and check lines and the back of the intake.

But i cleaned up the whole area, and at idle, it leaked almost half a quart in five minutes. i have a feeling its something baaaddd

Have you even pulled the valve cover(s)? I would recommend doing so and replacing the gaskets with the silicone rubber style (it looks like center bolt valve covers)?

And be sure you have your oil topped off perfectly so you can accurately measure how much you loose.
There are 22000 drops of oil in one quart, so if you lost 1/2 quart that would be a lot of oil.

Also, if you lost 1/2 quart in 5 min, then its pressure related and prob not a crack in an area where oil just rests
Has the engine been burning oil?

vc off also check for pluged drain return holes. if pluged can backup oil and it will push past the v/c gaskets.

Well with the gf in town, i keep pushing this back. And i've saved $100 in gas since its been down, soooo im not complaining

But i'll take a look when i get a chance and then hop on here and let y'all know whats up.
