Probably an easy one for you experts. My 84 K5/350 has what looks like a sending unit screwed into the block just above the oil filter, theres 3 wires off it,I know its not the pressure sending unit as thats next to the distributor. This also has a factory engine oil cooler and wondered if their for a thermostat system or engine kill system if it looses oil pressure???

I've seen 'vette's and cadys with that sensor...was for the oil temp. But I'm guessing that's not gonna be the case here.

I checked the diagrams from AZ`s link,Im trying to comprehend a choke wire off a pressure switch? Only thing I can think of is to save battery drain with the key on but engine off???
I`ll have to check the wire colors in the am and see if anything comes up in my manuals also. I was thinking as mentioned a pressure switch that prevents it firing up until oil pressure is established somewhat. This thing fires up in a millisecond after hitting the key though so that aint it:dunno:. Damn gizmos:rolleyes:

If it is the choke circuit, the switch prevents the choke from heating up and disengaging if you turn the key on, to say, listen to the radio.

in my experience on the engines I work on, pressure switches are 3 wire, and temp are 2 wire. but often have circuits wired through the oil pressure switch. usually as a safety or backup of somesort.
