I was busy with other things, so had a friend pick it up for me. Guy said the motor was bad and I didnt care (just wanted the body). It was a 5spd manual truck he said but didn't know what the motor was exactly. I assumed a 350. When I saw it for the 1st time I found out it was a Vortec 4.3 V6. Being a V6 1/2 ton truck, what transmission would you assume it should be. The NV3500 right?

My guess would be NV3500. Could be wrong though.

my guess is on the nv3500,i no its not chevy but my dad had a 2000 dodge 1/2ton except with a v8 and it was a nv3500

That would be my guess too.

Now I have seen a couple V-6 type work trucks, fleet type trucks, they all had a nv 4500.

I can say with certainty that it is indeed an NV3500. Only the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks got the NV4500

I have seen the nv4500s in half ton trucks, and in v-6 trucks.

In fact there was a concrete company around here that ordered 5 trucks brand new in the mid 90s ( I don't remember the exact year of the trucks) my buddy who worked at the concrete place got a hold of one of em and sure enough it had an nv4500, We went and checked all the other ones, every single one of em had a 4500 and a 4.3 v-6 all 4wd, all had SF 14 bolts in the rear. All 6 lug trucks. Even found the orginal invoices of the trucks. They were ordered like that.

I also have 2 friends one with a 94 and one I think a 95 small block trucks half ton 4x4 both have nv4500s, both were sold to them with all the original documents. They were equipped from the factory like that.

The one thing I have never seen is a 10 bolt rear end in combo with an nv 4500 in a half ton.

Which made them what they called heavy halfs. So yes half tons did get the nv 4500

Well the majority of you thought what I originally thought. Either an NV3500 or possibly the Getrag that some used.

Well, I was surprised to find it was a V6 in it when I first saw it... but that made me think it would be for sure some light duty transmission. I looked underneath and was pleasantly surprised to find an NV4500 in it. And this one was a 1500 1/2 ton 4x4 truck with a GM 10-bolt rear end.

The truck didn't seem to have an features that made it seem like it was a fleet work rig or anything had blue interior and all the power options and was pretty clean. It was just a shock that a 1/2 ton truck with a 4.3 had an NV4500 in it. But I didn't complain one bit.

That would be a first for me then never seen one with a 10 bolt rear.

cool score man

Friend of mine had a '96 K1500 extended cab 4x4 non-Z71 with a Vortec 350, NV4500, and a 10 bolt rear.

Think for a while when GM realized the Getrag was a stinker they were throwing whatever manual transmission they could get in them.

Man, GM did all kinds of crazy stuff with special orders in the 90s! I have never seen a V6 half ton with a 14b sf or an NV4500 before, heck, I'd be shocked to see a 1500 with a 350 and an NV4500!

Not much different than the 10 bolt/D44/12 bolt era change over. GM's known for using up whatever it has in stock or just using what it has on hand.
