My 97 gmc just sprung a leak. Napa wants $370ish for thier modene (sp?) We also have Mac's Radiator up here and they want $270ish. Both are plastic/alum just like the factory one.

Any comments? I've been hearing lots of bad lately about replacement radiators...

check out summit's alum rad's... made by northern... usually under $300 for model specific, universals are cheaper.....

my thread regarding the radiator info:

When i search summit under my make and model, Vista Pro and Spectra are the only ones in that price range, then the prices go $500 and up...

Is Northern only for our square bodies, or a universal fit?

Well, unless i'm having trouble on their site via my droid, i only see that they carry this radiator for models with a 350. Mines got a 454... i'll have to get on the pc later and look into it more

the part # was in my thread...380482....your lucky day on sale right now:

I have this one in my 77...with a modified 454...cools great as long as I turn on the fans.

Thanks, zim. I feel cyber lazy now for not finding that myself. I like the tapa talk ap, but its not so hot for searching sometimes...

So i see that that is a universal fit, rad. I'll have to go pull a tape on mine and see if it will work. Price looks good tho

Personally, I would just run a stock replacement.

Try 1-800- Radiator or a performance radiator in your area. Sometimes they have better deals on good stuff, but most are made overseas anymore.

Modine used to be the best you can buy for a stock replacement radiator when they were around. Now, Spectra has been taking over and while the quality has gone down a little bit, they are still decent radiators for the price. Just be careful as you can't really fix a plastic or aluminum radiator unless its on the core, and usually at that if its too big your SOL

I bought one of those part store replacement radiators with the crappy plastic tanks and its worked pretty well for the past 3 years.

but then I bought a northern all aluminum radiator for my other truck a couple months ago and plan on getting another one when I get tired of my stock replacement leaking.

even the factory one is plastic and aluminum. and yes, its leaking were where one of the metal threaded inserts goes into the plastic part. lame.
