I'm in the planning stages right now on rebuilding my rig this winter, which includes tapering in the front & rear of the truck.

My first question is what do most of you guys do with your batteries?

I have a few options, but I would prefer to mount them in the engine compartment.

#1: I could run dual batteries in the box, But that would involve redoing my entire electrical system, and I HATE the idea of running an un-fused wire from the box to the starter. I could run a slave solenoid in the box, If I have to. (I have more than enough cable to do this)

#2: I like how Ryoken Did his batteries on the firewall (http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194154) but would the tapered in fenders clear that setup? I also want to keep my factory heat. (I'm on a tight budget this winter and dont know if ill be able to fit a new aftermarket heater in)

#3: I would like to fit them in the front corners if it is possible at all. but I doubt I could. I was also thinking of mounting My rad in the box and putting the batteries in the very front where the rad usually sits. but will I need to buy an electric collant pump to help with the increased flow? and If I do, the cost of a pump, hose, tubing and mounting the rad back there will probably cost more than option 2 with the heater.

It seems that I have only found the negatives with this, does anyone have any good advice on doing this?

what size 24 or 27?

you could taper my truck... it'd be close, but it could be done... my box could actually go toward the center an inch or 2 if I had planned for a taper.... and i run #27's...

I took 9" out of each side doing the taper on the 90. I also kept the factory a/c heater box. When you taper the core support has to move closer to the engine. I could not find enough room under the hood for my optimas. The batteries are now in the rear seat footwell one on each side.

I don't remember how much we tapered mine in but I do remember we were going to have to cut some stuff off to get the heater to clear. Instead we just added to the fenders some. worked out pretty well. What I mean is my fenders go straight for about 12" before the taper starts. Thats where we added some metal to join the two

I would run them as far back as possible. In the stock tray the batterys are quite high on the body and its a lot of weight thats high up and over the front end. I would also buy one of the battery relocation kits from summit racing or similar because some are still reasonably priced. With the price of copper some places want an arm and leg for wire. My local napa wanted 6.97 a foot for 2 gauge the other day. The best I could get them down to was 3.98 which is still expensive.
