Oh and as far as the legality, I'd say almost certainly that the tires shouldn't extend past the body. I find our cops are pretty laid back when it comes to policing that kind of infraction guaging some of the vehicles I've owned, but is it worth the chance?

Yeah, that was the chance I did not want to take. I would like to be able to go on road trips, or go to an ORV park, with out getting pulled over.

I don't know how strict the police are in other areas of Canada/America...

I'll chime in here...

I have been considering starting to chop the sheet metal off my K5 cause I am sick of leaving paint on the trees, esp after today's trip...

But Greg makes a good point. I could bet my next tank of gas that I can drive WAY better than most of the heep guys on the trails, cause I have to THINK about my line choice, simply for the reason of keeping the truck off the trees.

Plus, I am able to carry a fullsize spare, three tool boxes, and a 3 gallon air tank in the back of my k5... once I build a rear bumper I can ditch the tire and put the seat back in.

Our rigs are not jeeps. If you want a jeep, sell your blazer or burb and buy a tub, then put all the GM goodies under it. Plans for mine are to start building body armour so that when I get in the trees I just slide across em. Keeps the sheet metal straight, and in place, and will keep you legal on the road. I dont trailer mine, and wont ever have the funds to have a tow rig and trailer. So my plans are to start protecting whats left of the straight sheet metal, and keep wheelin. :D
