Nasty sound coming from my Trans?? HELP!

Got 84 K5 with 305/700R4/NP208. Running 14 bolt in rear w/4.56/Detroit Locker/ 1350 CV style driveshaft. When I am exiting the freeway, or slowing down quickly, I hear a horrible downshifting sound from the transmission (I think) around 10-15mph. This only happens a couple of times, but when it does, it feels like something is going to go through the transmission pan.

Is the 700R4 overheating? Chain in the NP208 loose? Any suggestions appreciated.

If it is a wirr sound and you her it while taking off the back end of the 700r4 is starting to shell out. What you may be hearing is the planetary starting to come apart. The best way to tell is drop the trans pan and look for pieces of gear and alumnium. This is a very common problem for the early 700r4. Hope this helps narrow it down.
