Any one know if there is a difference between the two in manufacturing quality. We use Timken here at Cessna on our Jets but Orileys has quite using timken. Looking to do wheel bearings before frostbite and haven't ever used National.

Timken has always been a top quality bearing and National aint bad either. If both wer laying in front of me I would take the Timken first. Be leary of any bearing made in China or Russia some Jap bearings are very good as well. Have you seen the China bearings with the plastic cage for the rollers? We have seen many failures with these in the boat trailers.

Timken are made in China- To put it in perspective. Even the Chinese need quality bearings for their vehicles. I doubt they have two different assembly lines, one for Americans, and one for Chinese. I bet they come off the same line.

Now I don't agree with sending stuff overseas. I personally feel we need to build and buy local, but things are how they are, and just because it is made in China doesn't mean it's junk.

koyo bearings seems to be good as well, but I really only know dirtbike stuff in this area. Koyo has Japan stamped on it, not sure if it's made there though.

From the Timken website...

Total number of facilities: 46 plants and 100 sales offices, technology centers and distribution warehouses located in 27 countries on six continents.

Two joint ventures in China...

  • Timken (Anshan) Industrial Services Co. Ltd. - Anshan, Liaoning Province, China
  • Timken XEMC (Hunan) Bearings Co., Ltd. – Xiangtan, China

Timken!

I will always choose, and go out of my way to use, a Timken product.

I grew up in Canton Ohio across town from the Timken plants. They may make some of their bearings in china now but they still make a lot of them in Ohio and all the profits from Timken bearings are going back to Canton.

when i rebuilt my dana 60 all the bearings were timken , had made in usa stamped on them. the bearings for my 14 bolt are moog , made in usa , assembled in china.

i had wheel bearing problems with a 2003 tracker, napa SKF 1st quality has a NTN in the box. the 3 time changing the bearing in one year decided to use timkin, guess what NTN in the timkin box!!!:dunno:

SKF is made in the USA, I have those as well. The manufacture number on the box matched those of the Timkin and National variety.
