Near pendelton Oregon, broken, anyone close

You could have driven that 29 miles with the engine off and coasted 98% of the way. It is only the last 2 miles into Pendelton that require more than gravity.

We were going the other way towards La Grange.

It really did rather well. Only got to about 220 climbing a hill then down to 200 got a lot colder when we turned it off down hill. The brakes sucked and the steering was a bit fun, but it ran fine. Stayed at 12 volts the whole way also.

Got to the NAPA got the part they loaned us a tension tool and it took longer to figure out the belt routing then the replacing the part.

So Eric just called me, his Burb chucked its belt in Preston ID, tensioner is bad.........................

True story, He's back on the road now. We swapped a new pulley onto the tensioner and threw a belt on it. He's lucky he broke where he was or he'd have not had cell service for a loooong ways.

Make sure you pack a spare idler and belt next trip. It's sad when you can't even get quality parts at NAPA,

Yikes, sounds like serpentine belt tensioner pulley bearing disease is spreading rapidly out west--must be contagious !..

I have a bucket full of old tensioner pulleys I got from my friends scrap pile at his shop--he often replaces "everything" at once ,even if one or more "might" still be good, customers want to be able to trust their vehicles for commuting...

I have found the bearings used in most of these are the same numbers used on many other things like some alternators, electric motors,etc--one bearing I removed from one pulley happened to be the identical number used on my Sears Suburban tractor starter/generator unit..saved me from having to buy one..frankly I am surprised these small bearings hold up at all on a serpentine belt setup, with the RPMS they have to spin at,I would think a larger bearing would be better..

I've gone through enough tensioner pulleys on the Yukon I keep a spare one and a belt in my tool box.
