With most of all our new devices running of of usb ports I thought it would be cool to mount one in the pannel of my truck rather than having it plugged into the cigarette lighter. And in this case all my 12v aux and cig lighter ports are right infront of my main cupholder in my dmax. So this took me all but 15 min a little soldering and parts I had laying around.
First I started and took apart this thing.
I picked mine up from the local wallyworld for 5.99 and it came with two ports bonus.
Next part is find a pannel that open, in my case it ended up being next to the air bag. Now I know this wont apply to most square bodys but you can find somewhere to put it ie the big plastic center consul.
after taking it apart measure cut the size of the port mine ended up being 16mm x 16mm.
Cut a hole of the dimensions, I used an exacto knife but a dremel may work better for you depending on thickness.
You do not have to but I through a switch in on the ground side. Mini spdt simple toggle.
I was able to use 5min epoxy and bending a few of the tabs to get a nice tight fit.
Done just need to hook up to a fused 12v and ground
