Looking for a little advice. I currently have a 1983 K5 blazer, 4 inch pro comp suspension lift with 33 in tires. Looking to get 4 inches more for some bigger tires. I have looked at 8 inch lift kits but I am not sure how the ride will be compared to the current 4 inch setup.
I am now thinking a DIY4X rear shackle flip kit and 4 inch extended shackles for the front would be the best way to go. It is easy on the wallet also. I do not want to compromise safety either.

What do you think?

Oh yea, tires would be 36-38 in.

4'' shackles won't give you 4'' of lift

i have 6'' schackles,..stock ones are 4''...so 2'' longer but b/c their only on one end of the spring you get @ 1'' lift for said 6'' shackle

to get 4'' from a shackle it would need to be 8'' longer than what you already have, which would be 12'' shackle and this would move ur pinion pointing at the ground

i'm going to use 3 1/2'' square tubing w/ 1/4'' wall and drop my front mount about 4'' and run 3 1/2'' tubing from 1 side to the other, form walls for spring out of vertical tubing and weld nut inside, so bolt goes thru spring eye from outside and no backup needed when tightning...+ i can get the 2 more inches from my shackles+@3/4'' from stronger new front mount....should put me @ 15''s of lift

extending the front shackle wont net much lift. and can be very unsafe. You will need 8" springs in teh front. You can do the shackle flip and 4" rear lift springs. Not sure how well a 4" block and a shackle flip would work.

Where in texas you located?

Well, On the rear I already have 4 inch springs, then add the shackle flip which should raise 4 extra inches, I don't have any blocks on the truck. I didn't think that about the front shackles.
Will look into just front springs.
Now, Which ones? BDS seems to have a pretty good spring rate, don't want my dash to hit me in the face when I hit a bump.

Live just outside of Austin.

35'sx 12.5 you should be able to fit with minimal, if any trimming. I ran it on a 4" lift, with a flip and a zero rate(mostly to reposition my axle rearward).

Are you keeping the sway bar?

Call up Alcan springs and get a qoute one a set of custom springs. Awesome ride and quality, built to your specs. Pretty good deal.

BDS is a great company also, although i do not have experience with them.

how about a combination of a zero rate, shackles and a body lift. zero rate = 1" plus you can move the front axle forward. shackles can give you an inch and then a 2" body lift. now you have 8" of lift, which I think is too much, I have 8" front springs. cut more, lift less.

This might be a dumb question but, why do people move the front axle foward? How does this help any?

it gives you more room between the tire and the firewall. as your springs compress the tire moves up and towards the rear. you can trim the front of your fender easily, trimming the cab is not so easy. if you do need to trim the front off the fender its not as much as the rear since the only time your tire moves forward is when its drooping, not compressing.
